That case was discussed a lot online; funny thing being that based on the information on hand, the TN guy really wasn't a citizen. You're point still stands, though. In theory, had that gentleman gone ahead and filed an N600 prior, he would have discovered his status much sooner, and had more time to take corrective steps. A passport is proof of citizenship, but notthing beats an Amercian CB/CON/COC/CRBA. If I had a kid that derived, a COC is DEFINITELY something I would invest in.

It's a timebound process: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/passport-help/faqs.html Contacting Us: If you have been waiting more than four weeks for your documents, call us at 1-877-487-2778 to report that you have not received your documents. If you want us to reimburse you for a lost supporting document, you must contact us within 90 days of the date which we mailed your passport. You will also need to provide a receipt to show the cost of replacing the document.

Probably prudent for OP to get the son's passport first.

He'll be fine... just practice and practice more! There are so many study tools... apps, videos, paper resources, notecards, etc. Because he is trying to master the language, perhaps youtube videos would work best? I didn't use her (I used mobile apps), but this YouTuber gets a lot of positive feedback. -

Yes, stamping is becoming less and less common. Boo. That's why I settled for the regular version; still, I intend to politely ask for stamps at international destinations. Apparently, every now and then, customs staff may oblige. -

How fluent is he in English now? I think the English classes are a great idea. Can never start the civics test prep too soon if English is a new language. -

Yes, DOS handles passports. One unfortunate reason one might want to update USCIS with an address update in the future is to file an N-565; that's really stretching it though. I'm with the others... celebrate not having to deal with USCIS anymore. -
When I went in to update with my passport last year, they had these signs with QR codes posted that let you go directly to the scheduling system online. Sheduled patrons had priority too.

Happy to help. Also, if you go in person with your CON, I *believe* they run it through SAVE. As we know, SAVE can be finicky... though, with a new CON, one would hope it comes back verified instantaneously. SSA can verify a U.S. Passprt visually, which means going with a passport is preferable when possible. In fact, the SSA manual tells its staff to take passport over the CON/COC if presented with both, because the former is easier to verify an avoids utilizing USCIS systems.

You are right... it would indicate that they've updated it. One way to confirm is to sign into your SSA account. If you are able to go through the motions of ordering a replacement card online (don't really have to go all the way through with it), then your citizenship stataus has been updated, as only citizens have the ability to do so online.

You could proactively request a combo interview via upload. Won't be guranteed, but some folks have had success doing that. -
There were a couple of reports that this service is ended, but it hasn't been fully confirmed. I'd give it a few weeks. Remember, the important aspect isn't necessarily the new card without work authorization legend (though that is a fringe benefit for I-9 verifications); the important aspect is proper cataloging of your retirement benefits.
