    Order checkbook tomorrow, how do you live without it? This is USA 2024, half of the businesses still expect checks for various payments 😀 As to date, I'd get the check when your 90 day window opens, and not earlier than that, just to be 100% safe.

    USCIS doesn't refund fees. Now, it's a tricky situation. Usually you'd file I-485 with a copy of approved I-129F. Did you file I-485 at all? Did you include copy of I-129F with it? Or I-130? If you haven't filed I-485 yet, it's too late to rely on I-129F and you're OK with I-130. But you gotta file I-485 with copy of I-130 receipt. Be prepared for longer than usual processing times...

    I recommend using personal check instead of cashier's check. With personal check, you'll know exactly when USCIS takes the money out of your account and starts working on your case.

    No, you cannot travel internationally without US passport after becoming a citizen. Reschedule your travel plans if you can. Really consider it. I can't imagine becoming a citizen can be a lower priority than travel, be it business or leasure. I can never recommend rescheduling. Sometimes USCIS will forget about you and you may end up trying to reach them to get an update for many months. If you're ready to put some effort and test your luck, you can actually attend the ceremony, get naturalized and do your best arranging an urgent passport appointment. If you have 3 weeks or so between naturalization and and trip, you may be able to pull this off. Good luck!

    Sometimes you never receive text despite of filing G-1145. It can take 6 weeks to get your receipt by mail.

    The issues with renewing passports are not so rare: A gentleman from Iran also renewed his passport for many years until he started having issues (it was in the news). I think I made my point of this potentially costing a lot more than $1170 in the future. I won't reply any more to this topic as there's nothing more I can add and it's down to OP to file this or not. If I didn't file as a parent, at least I'd have a conversation with children when they're over 18 to make them aware of this at least.

    I don't think it was reviewed in full. I think it was just opened and realized that it's a response to RFE, then online system was updated as "received". It may take few months before somebody actually reads it and evaluates in a context of your case.

    Are you sure your kids US citizens then? DOS may decide they're not until proven many years down the line. I totally see how difficult your situation is, but you asked whether it's worth it The more info you're giving, the more I see the need to somehow obtain it to avoid issues in the future. It won't be easy for them to prove how they became citizens based on what you described.

    No, if they're LPR they must use green card. CBP may refer them to immigration court upon entry.

    The kids may have to prove they're in custody for N-600 in the future. You only get one chance to get N-600 approved. If not, they'll be stuck in limbo. Some stories why N-600 is important: You can find a lot more if you search.

    Not so easy! USCIS may deny N-400 saying they're already citizens, whereas DOS may require proof of citizenship but won't be just accepting denial letter from USCIS as such proof. It happened in real life to some. If it's difficult to get N-600 now, it would be 10x times more difficult proving citizenship several decades later.

    You can legally work as LPR for foreign companies. You'll have to pay taxes in the US though. Now, 90k GBP salary is not bad for the UK. However, this tells me, unless you're overvalued at your current place, you should be able to make $140-200K at a similab job in the US. I'd keep working for UK employer and start looking for a new position in LA area. You'll likely need health insurance and other benefits your UK employer won't be able to easily arrange.

    Sometimes this is a desire to have power over immigrant more than anything else. I hope this is not the case here.

    If 20 years later they're asked to show proof of citizenship in order to renew US passports, the certificate would be the best one! Don't make it difficult for them.

    How long is your existing I-751 pending? If only for few months, you can: - submit a new one with divorce waiver and copy of divorce decree - withdraw old I-751 after receiving new case If it's been pending for a while, you can write to USCIS asking to convert your case. Include copy of extension letter and copy of divorce decree.

    If you haven't sent it yet - stop, print missing pages and send it all together. Any missing pages on evidence can cause RFE.

    Furthermore, it appears that Vietnam allows dual citizenship. In such cases, many countries that allow it require to use their passport to enter the country. You should check if she is required to enter Vietnam on Vietnam passport.

    Yes, it can pose problems. Extension letter itself creates problems occasionally, even with matching names. Imagine names not matching. Your step daughter should carry passport, GC, extension letter and a document proving name change for international travel. She should also have plan B if airline denies boarding a US bound plane, such as travel to Mexico / Canada and crossing by land. I'm not saying she'd have issues all the time, but there's a chance.
