  1. I'd check I-551 box. Technically, you cannot use just I-797. It's not an ID, it linked to I-551 since it's extending it. So you're showing expired GC (I-551) and I-797 which extends its validity. Boring part Also, very important, I-797 and I-797C are different things! Make sure you show original watermarked I-797 and not its black and white copy (I-797C). Obviously, do not surrender I-797 for DMV to keep, as you'll need it for travel etc. Also, I-797 and I-797A are also different things. I-797A is a replacement for I-94. I-797A is not issued for I-751. I-797 is issued, and I-797C (copy). I-797A is issued to non-immigrants, such as people on H1B etc.
  2. Not sure I'm following. I see a screenshot from a Reddit thread (how credible is that?) Do we know for sure they were lawyers? Were they immigration lawyers or "everything" lawyers?
  3. You can be at slight disadvantage using foreign passport or GC. The thing is, usually nobody cares about immigration status etc when using DL / state ID. But as soon as you show passport, they start flilpping pages and occasionally ask about US visa etc. In your particular case, I'd be showing GC and GC + extension letter when GC expires. No need to show passport really domestically. But you can carry it just in case.
  4. In my opinion, the most diffucult task would be getting on the plane on the way back.
  5. Agree, this is the best bet, though printed copy may not be accepted by all airlines. Many require original watermarked extension.
  6. I think OP may have hard time convincing airline, but they can try. Not sure if the wording also implies the GC should have expired less than a year, which isn't the case with OP. Otherwise, why would you ever renew a GC? You'd travel outside for few weeks with expired GC (cause every time you're out of the US for less than a year!)
  7. Do we see? I see a lot of cases of people getting back after long absense, but while their 10 year GC is still valid. Airline won't be happy to board a passenger with expired GC and no extension letter.
  8. I think it's best to change your name at Naturalization (N-400) stage
  9. While you're not living together your US spouse would file taxes using Married Filing Separated. You would file your taxes in Canada. Once you start living in the US, you will file Married Filing Jointly.
  10. I'm sorry about your family situation @LuckyJones You may need to change your travel plans for the return flight. You will likely be denied boarding the plane on your way back to the US. You may need to fly to Mexico or Canada and cross by land. There's nothing you can do now other than postponing your trip, filing I-90 and waiting for extension. Or visiting field office to get ADIT stamp before you depart. All of this assuming you had a 10 year GC and didn't need to file I-751. If you have expired 2 year GC, you're in much bigger trouble.
  11. File AR-11 online. Use apartment as your old address, since this is where you lived last. Use your house address as the new address. Save the receipt that you get in the browser. Cannot argue "I didn't know" as there's booklet that comes with Green Card telling you to do that. For N-400 make sure to list all addresses where you lived truthfully. Same if you're asked at I-751 interview. Good luck!
  12. Yes you can if you file everything together. Make sure to include biometrics fee.
  13. I see. Did you get a 48 month extension letter? Were your fingerprints reused? Those are the ones I'd expect.
  14. No updates here? https://egov.uscis.gov/
  15. Thank you, learning something new every day!
  16. You asked about Green Card, and @Mike E replied about Green Card. Expired visa doesn't give access to any countries. I doubt even an active US visa gives access anywhere other than USA.
  17. Google more. You'll find more topics on VJ and Reddit where people describe the whole process. You're suppose to get some code / case number if DMV really sent a request to DHS.
  18. Do you know for sure somebody at DHS is looking into your issue? Nobody cares at DMV / DHS unless you insist, unfortunately. My question to others: can DMV only check status using SAVE? Is there no manual override when a valid physical document is presented?
  19. Did you move addresses? Maybe your interview invitation letter was sent to a wrong address?
  20. @Matty0289 only you know your immigration history and all circumstances that could be slowing down your case. You can also sue USCIS for decision.
  21. What's your case status?
