Add him to your cell phone plan ASAP so he doesn't have to forget old friends /whatsapp is free
talking to family and friends helps new friends will happen fast enough
spend a few days off when he first gets here to show him the area and what it can offer him
getting the driving license soon so he is not dependent on you to take him everywhere / put your home address in the cell (or car)GPS and let him drive around and look for himself
if he loves his English soccer add BEIN sports channel to your lineup

First of all, congratulations on making it through the process!
I'm only on day 49 and to be perfectly honest, I'm still a little anxious/nervous - and I expect I will be for a little more time to come. It's totally normal.
What is helping me so far is to have a to-do list of things to do when I got here. Little things that we take for granted back home but actually need to be done here, like getting a drivers license, library card, grocery store membership cards, etc. By the time I got those things done, I'd started to recognize the roads and a few faces which helped a lot.
If you have any family or friends there, why not throw a little welcome party? Something that says "we want you here with us" (My taxi driver knew exactly which house to drop me off at from the airport because of the flags my wife put everywhere!). If he has any hobbies consider finding a club/group he could join, having a shared interest is a great way to make friends. Getting a job whenever that may happen will also help the integration process.
Wishing you both the best of luck in your new lives!

I speak for all of us by saying, "Welcome to the Colonies! We Colonists kill only in cold blood and then only for money."
Seriously, the butterflies in his stomach are exceptionally natural. Get them to fly in formation by concentrating on opportunity and new experiences.
Others will be along with supportive advice. Keep the faith.

All,
Just had my email through for an appointment August 10th, no expedite or transfers for me. Will update my timeline in due course. DQ for me was Feb 23rd FYI for those that are waiting and wondering. Far too excited right now but embassy and NVC ARE processing slowly! Keep the faith.

So glad I found this thread. I didn't know such a wonderful resource existed.
Chins up, everyone. There's lots to be positive about now. If the rumour of the suspension of non-routine visas from August 1 is true, plus full capacity and no social distancing from July 19, the London Embassy really CAN clear this awful backlog.
To be fair, that's almost pre-Covid levels of visa issuance. Let's cut them some slack. I guess June was a write-off if the staff were at G7 but maybe they did some too.
My humble predictions:
Note: There's a guy on British Expats forums who was given 3 weeks notice of his interview (non-expedite) so I don't think there will be those long six-week gaps between interview letter and actual interview. Based on this and on the hope that the Embassy processes twice the number of CR1s/IR1s from the end of this month....
Remaining Feb/March/early April DQs -- hearing from the Embassy very very soon with interviews in August.
April/May/early June DQs - hearing in August for September/early October
Just want to spread a little positivity. I don't see why something like this isn't possible. Nearly there guys!

Hi everyone,
Wanted to update you all.
I have shared our story a couple of times but basically we were approved expedite by NVC one month ago after being DQ'd in February. They finally admitted to having a technical issue which resulted in our case not being transferred by the NVC to the Embassy but we finally have been able to schedule our interview today!!! Praise the Lord.
Interview is SO soon as we already completed the medical.
Appointment is next Tuesday, the 13th!!!
So thankful for this thread and for the support. Hoping you all still waiting won't be far behind.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to say that I have also not received any email regarding an apology based on delay. We are now over 120 days.
Also, I have previously mentioned that my husband and I were granted an expedite due to our circumstances. We received this email 18 days ago now. We were told to contact after 2 weeks of no movement, which we did. Upon contacting the NVC, they "promised" (quite literally the words used by 2/3 operators) that our case was with London Embassy. Upon contacting the Embassy, we were informed that it had not yet left the NVC.
Yesterday, my husband contacted the NVC for the final time. He was transferred to a supervisor who told us that our case had not in fact left the NVC. It turns out we were lied to by numerous operators. This supervisor claimed that we were in "extra administrative processing". After speaking with an immigration lawyer, it seems that our case HAS NOT been flagged as having any reasons to be under processing and this is just simply a "Safe zone" for them while they cover themselves for the backlog. I just wanted to mention that the backlog that we are experiencing seems to be coming from the NVC, not a hold up at the Embassy.
It is extremely inspiring to witness people across the globe, adapting to our new current climate that we are finding ourselves in. I wish that the NVC would follow suit.

People are still waiting from February? Oh my... If February/March DQs don't get emails this week (middle of the month again), I'd be seriously worried
We'll see on Monday, but it's looking like the relaxation of back-to-work/social distancing restrictions won't happen on the 21st now. So at least another month of the embassy moving at snail pace. This is getting ridiculous now.
Can someone explain why a criminal court case can take place over video call but not a visa interview? Or why the doctor at the medical can check your vitals, but the embassy can't take your fingerprints? There's no backlog for medicals. I thought the law was 'work from home unless you can't.' Visa officers seemingly can't, so why are they still operating a skeleton staff 16 months on after the first outbreak?
USCIS is catching up. NVC timeframes are significantly shorter now. But the NVC won't send cases for interview because the Embassy can't do them.
Sorry to rant but it's terrible. This is a paid service by the way. They have a legal obligation to process visas as per U.S. law within a reasonable time. Like the person above says, it's the lack of communication that's the worst. At least with USCIS and NVC you have timeframes posted on their website.
End of rant.

This long distance is rough but keeping fingers crossed for something very soon. I know everyone waiting is anxious but soon enough the time will come.

My longtime experience in this forum, of interviews done by the IV Unit is that on June 4 of any given year, there would be zero August interview dates posted by VJ members or open dates on the schedule. Pre-Covid shutdowns, at the end of a typical May, you would find June/July dates. By the last 3-4 days of June, you would see July/August dates. Those receiving dates assigned by NVC usually got about a months notice, during which time they arranged their medical exam. I don’t think lack of August dates is unusual at this time. London IV Unit never booked that far out.

Unfortunately we have to sit tight and see what happens, we are all trying to second guess everything without any actual solid information, sadly that seems to be a theme with the process.
August Interviews wouldn't be released until July, so we won't know for sure for a good few weeks yet, anything released this month will be for July. People re-planning their appointments seem to be able to book slots. I'm guessing that the embassy will either plan around that or hold slots back that they plan to use for batches of interviews, again unknown quantity as we are just guessing at what is happening. There was a month (January I think) where they skipped any interviews for some random reason.
I couldn't agree more, I'm definitely tired of a process that is heading into three years of waiting and so forth!!

Immigrant and non-immigrant processing are completely different. One isn't related to the other so don't worry.

Just wanted to do a quick update! I flew into LAX last night finally (Medical done in Januarh, interview in February). It took a while since my direct flight to Vegas kept on getting cancelled. I won't get into the nitty gritty of what happened here, I'll do a full POE review soon.
But! It went incredibly smoothly, had zero hassle, i wasn't even taken go secondary (I have the Class B note on my annotations for having an anxiety diagnosis).
At the border, I was asked to confirm my wedding date (4th of May 2019, didn't want to see my wedding cert) and he automatically upgraded my CR1 to an IR1! Thought this might be important information.
Good luck on your journeys everyone! You'll all get there and finally be reunited soon. I'll continue to swing by and give advice if I can. Take care.
