    If all else fails, take a look at SmallPDF.com -- it's a great site for multiple purposes, and they have a free trial for 7 or 14 days. I registered for a monthly subscription, and it's been worth every penny. You can compress documents that are too large, convert from one document format to another, etc. Disclaimer: My only connection to that website is as a happy customer.

    Ah, central Panhandle. I'm guessin' Floydada. Close? The DMV people will probably inspect your husband's Costa Rican driver's license with great interest, as a novelty. A little off the topic, but in 2002 or 2003 I flew to Amarillo, drove through Dalhart to Clayton, NM, then due east down the Oklahoma Panhandle (bucket-list item). Note to self and others: Do not drive even one mile per hour over the speed limit in or near Guymon, Okla. Anyway, let us know how your mission turns out.

    Smart lady! Yes, depending on time of day, Houston IAH can be loco. So many international arrivals come from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., for example.

    Just bring it along and present it only if asked. I think that the suggestion was along the lines of "bring everything possible so that you have it, just in case, to preclude being sent away because you didn't bring something that they wanted."

    At some land ports, sometimes CBP agents serve double duty (customs & immigration). This is the first that I'd heard about Austin's being an air port of entry, so maybe the CBP staff there is kept lean and efficient.

When I'm first in line at a red light, and without necessarily jackrabbiting, I watch so intently for green lights that my front tyres* are across the intersection before the rear tyres* of the car behind me are across the crosswalk where we'd been waiting. *the only cool and only permissible English spelling, anywhere, anytime
