  2. Hi All,

Have to go for biometrics next week for ROC. I'm a CR1 so I did my first set as part of the consulate interview. Has anyone arrived earlier than scheduled (but same day scheduled) and been seen or were you made to wait until your time? Basically my wife and I are hosting two exchange students and if I can get in and get out early enough I can still pick them up from school instead of my wife having to take time off work (I work from home). I understand that Covid has changed things but I figure it's worth a shot. My ASC is Jackson, MS which is a 2 hour drive (no reviews I could find for it either).

Hi all, CR1 visa holder in UK here. Travelling in a couple of weeks to enter the US on my visa and due to fly into Boston. A couple of questions:

As the coronavirus blanket ban is still in place until November, do I need to take proof of my exemption alongside my visa (marriage cert and copy of husband's passport), or is my visa enough on its own?
Also, in proving covid vaccination, is the little NHS card with the dosage stickers on its own sufficient, or do I need to take my full vaccination record and/or the signed medical vaccination record they gave me at the medical?

Is it wise to take any other documents from the application process (DS260 confirmation page, for example?) to ease customs and border protection or is it literally just my passport with the visa in? Curious to hear how other new arrivals did it!

    Thanks all :)

Your visa foil in your passport is all you need plus the covid test within three days of flying. Have the certificate and passport copy handy just in case as when I flew in August, the airline person checking me in asked me about marriage certificates etc because they weren't familiar with the CR1 visa. They phoned Homeland to ok my boarding, and the agent didn't even give them a chance to go into a big explanation. They heard CR1 and said, "Approved to board" and hung up. The agent was a little shooketh :D.

  6. RE: the UK tax part - if you invoice the company in the UK, they are under no obligation to withhold tax for you as a contractor so they can pay the ful invoice into a UK account or if they are willing and able, a US one. Especially if it's piecemeal work and not a consistent gig (IR-35 can be a ####### as my UK contracting friends are finding out). And if you are on their books as an employee, they can get a £0-tax tax code from HMRC for you as you are based outside the UK. Have you filed a P-85 since you left? This would help as it's proof you're no longer based in the UK for tax purposes.

Then, follow the guidance on reporting your income here in the US that you've already been given by the other contributors when you get your EAD and a SSN.

That is extremely wise to get the citizenship out of they way. So many leave then decide they want to come back and have to start all over with a US visa.

    This!

The financial requirements can be met using US income. I did that when I had to leave the US when my H-1B transfer was refused. I used my last 6 months of income from my US job and because of the timing of the pay stubs I had to wait an extra month to get a UK paystub to show I had means to support my wife when she arrived (payslip+UK employment contract). if my paystubs had been accurate I could have used all my US income (has to match to bank deposits).

You can prove the finanical requirements with savings as well (minimum £16,000 cash savings). Which if you saved $1000 for 20 months would meet that requirement (or you might even have that now if you have a house to sell in the US).

A parent or a siblings home can be sufficient for the living requirements as long as the kids have their own room and so do you and even there, if the kids are little, a single large room could suffice to begin with. There's a supporting residence requirement (letter from homeowner/landlord) and you have to provide picture proof of the residence. Just make sure your landlord isn't a tool if you are renting.

No need to show finacial support for kids assuming they have dual nationality. If they are only US citizens and not both US and Biritsh, there is a requirement of £3600 for the first one and £2400 per additional child thereafter.

My wife and I used https://www.firstmigration.com/ - they aren't laywers but they are registered immigration consultants and provide the same level of service as a law firm. They were £1250 + application fees when we used them in 2019. And they really, really know their stuff.

  8. Hi Matty,

You will need a print out of your summary care record.

Also, if you have suffered from depression in the past and/o have SSRIs on your care record they will quiz you on this. If you have had depression or any other mental health issue, you will need a letter from your doctor. This thread provided a really good template for said letter:

I used the basic outline and had a phone call appointment with a GP who wrote the letter while I was on the phone. I used the points in the post and dictated them to the doctor.

    Kind regards

    Andrew

If your interview is scheduled, just take the latest tax documents along with you.

I just had this. I had my wife's 2020 return as well as her offer letter and pay stubs (she went back to the US in May as she got her old job back) + my offer letter from my current company for continued employment in the US. I was given a 221g and told to upload the docs to CEAC.

Uploaded to CEAC to the Applicants CIVIL DOCUMENTS section (I had uploaded them to the AOS section but there is actual text in CEAC about the civil docs section being where to upload additional requested docs).

And now waiting for AP to finish and the visa to be issued :)

Someone I follow updated their timeline today who's yet to post here - https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=390951. 14th Sep interview date with a DQ date of 24th May!

Are both parties emailed when they're interview is scheduled or is it only posted via mail? I (the beneficiary) have moved address since DQ and don't see a way of updating my address. Is it important to update it for receiving confirmation of interview date and also for where to send passport with visa in it, or am I ok to leave it? Thanks!

When you register, you are given an opportunity to set which address you want to the passport delivered to or you can confirm which DX exchange (of 5) you want to collect it from.

Also - congrats to everyone getting their interview emails today. It's such a  relief when it arrives. Get that medical booked ASAP :).

See what the medical clinic tells you to bring to the appointment

This is what the embassy says about the medical

If your application is digital (as most are now), they don't need the 4 passport photographs anymore - they take a digital one at the medical. However, I would still recommend having them just in case.

Sorry for the late response! Well... they had their medical on the 22nd July and their interview was 2nd August so it was plenty of time but she needed the TDAP and the doc at Visa Medical said she could just get it from her gp and send in the new vaccine record (I had said she should get anything she needs there so it's wrapped up and done) so she did that but then had to wait over a week to go to the doctors and it ended up being received by the Visa Medical the day before the interview.  They sent it pretty quick, I think by the 3rd the Embassy had received it.  I would just get any vaccines you need before you go and if you can't, pay for them there if you can - so much easier.

The next issue was I didn't realize my parents had a couple of certified copies of their marriage and birth certificates so I guess the ones I uploaded weren't the ones she took with her (I just presumed they'd be the same as she'd not mentioned these extra copies so that stressed me out). They had a different reference number so anyway I just had to upload them to the NVC/CEAC website. They received their passports on Monday so 6 days later with no other issues.

They were asked for their passports, interview letter, passport pictures, DS-260 confirmation, their birth and marriage certs, my birth cert and that's about it.

Highly recommend getting the missing vaccine shots at the medical if you're able to afford it. It's what I had to do as my vaccine record was lost in my move from South Africa to London.

    t-minus 1 week to interview...

Good luck to the next batch. Finger's crossed you start getting emails soon.

  12. Hi All,

I'm headed for my CR1/IR1 interview in London in a week and all being well, will be headed back to Dallas to join my wife in September.

I was previously in the USA (and met and married my wife there) on an H1B. So I have a SSN which has 'VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION' on it.

    My questions are:

Will my status on my SSN status automatically change in the system when I enter on the new visa? Or will I need to contact my local SSA office and have them a) change it and b) re-issue the card. I know I'll need the card re-issued to remove the text so just curious if I need to do anything else?

    Kind regards

    Andrew

  13. I was missing my records as they were lost in the move from South Africa to the UK. The only jabs you need are TDaP and MMR. I had both done during the medical for an extra £90. The blood test to check titers on vaccinations was £90 through visa medicals and I suspect similarly priced elsewhere. So you could spend £90 only to find you need to spend it again. Or just get the first shots as required for the same amount. Felt a bit bleh for the first two days after but I'm fine now. If your immunisations were done in the NHS though, you won't have the same lengths to go through that I have and as has been said above - your patient summary care record should list all your vaccinations.

Wife has scheduled her medical for the 27th of July, is there any important shots she needs?

    https://uk.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2015/11/vaccine_chart.pdf

Check the chart in the link. If she has a vaccine record with proof of the required shots then no. Varicella (Chicken pox) is waived as the UK doesn't vaccinate for it. I have no records I can bring with so I will have to get TDaP and MMR shots/boosters.

    Hi,

We have also already uploaded these. All of our docs have been accepted which is why we are confused. I also have the recent tax return printed and with me (I am travelling from Northern Ireland to London a day early so it’s a bit of nightmare now that they’re asking when I’m not at home).

    thank you.

If you've already uploaded all of them and your spouse only has a 1099 then submit that as well as a note explaining that they are a contractor and as such do not have a W2 to submit.
