I have found out you will have to file I-1944 with I-485, making applying for and EAD almost a catch 22

I know. But one of the questions on the new I-1944 asks for your EAD number. If you are filling altogether then you have no chance of receiving it before filing aos and filling the form.

it’s as if you haven’t got the opportunity to prove you can work and won’t become a public charge

I’m the beneficiary and my fiancé earns enough to support me! That’s fine and all. As soon as I can I’ll be applying for work etc. I just wasn’t sure how this would impact me on moving to the US and obviously not working or building credit between moving on K1 and applying for my green card! Sorry if that didn’t make sense.

What's confusing me is that this all is phrased like it applies to immigrants who already live in the USA. How are we supposed to have any credit score at all before we're able to get a SSN and a bank account? Or are they going to want the USC petitioner to provide their credit score and be mandated to have insurance? It's not terribly straightforward for all circumstances.

Has anyone seen the new income requirements for 2020? Can't seem to find them. I'm sure this will all become clearer in due time but right now it's a bit chaotic.

Oh that’s so reassuring! I thought EAD was at the same time. So do you mind providing an example time frame? EAD upon marriage and then how long later for the green card? I assumed that had to be done within the three months the K1 visa is valid for. I just admit my focus has been on the paperwork to get in so far as opposed to the once in so this is a bit new to me! I really appreciate your clarification!

Sort of but no "officer" needed to be "reminded".  I doubt there will be any noticeable change in how they exercise their judgement.  We'll see.

Any indication of how today's ruling might effect current filers? I'm a K-1 adjuster and plan to mail my Adjustment of Status package tomorrow.

The US Government does not want immigrants depending on government benefits. The sponsor/petitioner is completely separate from that, and you shouldn't have a problem as long as none of you depend on public assistance: welfare, food stamps, etc.

Neide reacted to Penguin_ie in Negative attitudes in the forum
I wanted to address the negative attitudes we have seen on the rise recently in the upper/ immigration forums towards those who ask beginner/ simple questions, or have unusually fast or slow VisaJourneys.

First, there is a tone difference between the Progress forums- which are mostly for support and cheerleading, and the Info forums, which are mostly to have questions answered.   While all our forums are supposed to be welcoming to all and friendly, this is especially important in the Progress forums, which are not to discuss politics, or be negative towards  those fortunate to have their case dealt with quickly, or  critical of those who voice sadness about their own slow progress. These forums are there to uplift eachother!

Secondly- in the info forums, you may get bad news.  When a question is asked, our members are encouraged to answer truthfully, even if this may not be what the Op wants to hear, because it is important to be informed.  However, the emphasis is still on being welcoming and friendly.  If you need to give bad news, do so gently, and stick to facts; constructive criticism of the Op's plans ARE allowed, but the emphasis is on constructive.  No need to dwell on mistakes (or tell members they should be on 90 Day Fiance- that is a personal attack and automatic suspension), or  illegal actions in the past- instead, encourage and explain legal options for the future.  And ONLY legal options- as per our TOS, VJ does not support, condone or encourage illegal (immigration) actions, and such posts will be removed.

Ultimately, we are here to help all members, old and new, easy cases and complicated, those who write a fact filled bullet point post and those who are panicking and don't make much sense in their first post. Yes, sometimes questions can be easily googled, or answered via a search of our forums.  But if you feel that way, just scroll past- no need to criticise the OP for asking the question.

officers have to give each report a number/  you will need that number to request a copy of the report but the following applies for any that are under investigation
    https://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/investigation-traffic/records

Please be advised that police investigative and intelligence records are not generally considered public records under Maine law, and the release of such records is restricted under Title 16, chapter 9 of the Maine Revised Statutes Annotated.
Below you will find a link to the application form for requesting an investigative record, as well as the fee structure for the release of reports. Please be advised that if you request, and are entitled to, multimedia files that are graphic in nature, you may also be required to sign an additional release acknowledging your understanding of the nature of the item(s) requested.

Did your boyfriend try to get a record/ letter from the court that has jurisdiction over his case? Get whatever you can from the court. A certified letter stating the arrest, charges, disposition of the case if any. Also, attach the police letter stating that they are unable to issue any document, and file it with your petition. This should be sufficient. It will either go through, or they might issue an RFE, then respond to the RFE appropriately/ accordingly.

In my case the police department ran a background check on me and nothing came up. Even though that department has me arrested, however, my case was sealed by the court. Nonetheless, I added the police document to the petition so they have it.

Hello.  I'm from Lynn, MA and the same thing happened to me in Lynn District Court.  My lawyer placed a call to the Police dept and the court house and after that I was able to obtain certified copies of the report.   Did you speak to the city clerk of Salem Court house?
