  1. Hello VJ Friends,

2 questions regarding translation of documents:

    1) is it standard for officially translated document to say "I hereby certify that I have made the above translation fro a copy of the original document in Portuguese and that the same is a true and accurate translation to the best of my knowledge and ability"?

    2) must all original documents from another country have an Apostille of the Hague Convention stamp in the back?

OMG I’m so not happy right now..

Second denial of my police certificate 🤬🤬🤬

Spoke with Supervisor, they are saying it’s the wrong one and must be one issued by the Australian Federal Police! But it is issued by them and clearly has Aus Fed Pol written on it 😭😭

what now? Anyone got a copy of their AFP certificate they can post so I can be sure it’s the same one?

    I am so sorry!
Maybe check the Australian consulate page for reciprocity documents. They have examples scanned there.

Hello to All!  UPDATE:  Today (24 Jan 2020) I received an automatically generated e-mail from USCIS saying "On 24 January 24, 2020, we sent your case, Receipt Number???????, to the Department of State for visa processing."  Will there be any notification when NVC receives my package....either by USCIS or NVC?

OK, this is good news. This means that USCIS sent your case to NVC.

The next step is waiting to see when NVC receives this. For me, this was 30 days after USCIS submitted and I only got the information because I called NVC (annoying to get someone on the line).

Now I am waiting for the case number.

    Good luck!

    Hi all,

I have to submit a certified translation of a Police Clearance Certificate from Germany as part of my marriage-based Green Card application.  This is part of the civil documents that have to be uploaded to the CEAC website.

I am getting a certified translation done (it will be done by a translation company, and a pdf will be sent to me, which I will upload). My question - do I need a hard copy of the translation (with wet signature from someone in the company) when I go to attend the Visa Interview in Mumbai? Any help in this matter will be appreciated.

    Best,
    Ashok

When I had my documents sent to a certified translator, I received a document with a wet signature from the translator. I have, however, read that the documents need not be officially translated - like you could do it yourself - if you are proficient in English. I would just rather not take the chances and do it officially. Maybe others may have more to add...

I used the website Wayback Machine to find snapshots of the NVC step 6 page. I used screenshots posted on the NVC December and January IR1 threads for data from December and January.

    https://web.archive.org/web/2019*/https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-6-submit-documents-to-the-nvc.html

The goal was to track the increase in NVC review times for documents submitted to them for immigrant visa Step 6.

There is no way to know why NVC is falling behind but they are.

    1. Is this because USCIS has increased the number of immigrant cases it is sending to NVC?
    2. New rules (or existing ones which weren't enforced as strictly in the past) which have added more work to each officer's plate?
    3. Reduction in the number of officers reviewing our cases?
    4. Software\equipment issues?

    What do you think?

That is quite an incremental increase! I am just really hoping that it's because of the holidays and praying that they will speed up now. Fingers crossed everyone!!!

Thanks for putting this together @Mr and Mrs S

    Hey everyone,

Just an update. - We uploaded all documents Nov. 22nd received an email this morning. RFE😭 Our attorney didn't upload a translation with one of the police clearances and also uploaded the wrong birth certificate (not the long form from UK) 😡 So back to the back of the line I guess. Hopefully the NVC gains some momentum on reviewing cases.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I don´t understand why they don´t just ask for the long form clearly.

I also did not realize attorneys were responsible for uploading the docs online. Annoying that they should know this info!

Keep fighting - you´re almost there!!

    Hello Everyone,

We have received our case number last night (yayyy! 😉

We are about to pay the fees BUT we noticed they have misspelled my spouse's middle name (he is the petitioner).

Does anyone has encounter a bug like this? How long will it delay our process? Do we need to call to have someone correct it?

    Thank you very much,

    Alix

First of all: congratulations! GREAT NEWS!

I am no expert, but I would call before to try to have them fix it before paying the fee. I would worry that paying the fee and then correcting it might - for some unexplained reason - be more burdensome for them and therefore take longer to remedy. Take a deep breath, call later tonight - close to their closing time for a higher chance of getting someone to pick up.

    Good luck! Keep us posted!

  8. Hello VJ Friends,

Do I need to issue a new marriage certificate (to show if there are any current annotations) - filing in Brazil? Myself and my husband only have had our marriage - no divorces or anything.

I don´t really understand the instructions below, from the reciprocity page:

    Marriage Certificates

Registration Criteria: Applicants must file for the Public Notice License (Edital de Proclamas), which is the document issued by Brazilian notaries when applicants file for a civil marriage license.  This document takes up to forty-five days to be issued and is valid for ninety days.

All, my Brazilian fiancé and I just successfully completed the K1 interview in Rio (on Jan. 7, 2020), so I have some definitive information on scheduling the medical exams, the ASC fingerprinting, and the visa interview.  Here's what we learned (in no particular order):

    1. Once you have received notice from NVC that your packet has been sent to the consulate and your CEAC status changes to "READY" (go to this website: https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/  and under IMMIGRANT, click on
"Check My Visa Application Status", enter your RDJ number from NVC and check your status) , do NOT wait for the consulate to email you with instructions for an interview -- the email may never come (neither my fiance' nor I received an email, and the consulate would never answer my 4 emailed status requests -- so I just scheduled it).  Instead, immediately complete and submit your DS-160, and then go to the visa appointment website (https://ais.usvisa-info.com/) and pay the fee and schedule the ASC fingerprinting and the visa interview.  NOTE:  You may need to use Chrome to schedule the interview -- I was unable to complete the visa/passport delivery address form using Internet Explorer, but it worked fine when I switched to Chrome.
    2. If you are doing your medical work in Rio, here is the shortest schedule/number of days in Rio you can do.  First, K1 visa interviews are only done on Tuesdays.  The medical analysis (xray, blood, urine) require a minimum of 2 business days to be reported to the doctor.  So plan to do all the medical work on Thursday (Thurs-Fri-Mon = 2 business days).  NOTE that only the xray actually requires an appointment (and an order from the doctor), the blood and urine are done at the same place on a walk-in basis.  Schedule your ASC fingerprinting and photographing on Friday or Monday.  Schedule your medical exam on Monday.  The doctor will give you a slip of paper confirming you completed the medical exam and then he will electronically transmit your results to the consulate and they will be available for your interview on Tuesday.
    3. So to summarize a proven minimum schedule:
    4.                  Thursday:  Xray, blood, urine

Friday or Monday:  ASC fingerprinting and photographing

                       Monday:  Medical exam

                       Tuesday:  Visa interview

    5. Plan to stay in the Ipanema Beach or San Conrado Beach area, both of which are very close to the Leblon neighborhood (far southwest of downtown), which is where everything is located except the actual consulate.  All medical analysis, medical exam, and ASC fingerprinting are in Leblon.  The consulate is in downtown (far Northeast of Leblon).  About a $25 cab ride from the San Conrado Beach area to the consulate.  What I'm saying is this:  don't try to stay close to the consulate -- that's not where you'll be spending most of your time.

    6. Time needed:  xray took about 20 minutes.  Blood and urine (same lab), took about 10 minutes.  ASC fingerprinting and photographing took about 25 minutes.  Medical exam took 25 minutes (mostly in waiting room, 10 minutes for actual exam).  Interview took about 3 hours in total.

    7. Medical exam:  make sure you bring either (1) the interview email from the embassy (which we never got) or (2) the printed interview scheduling and payment receipt page that shows your RDJ number.  The medical secretary will demand to see proof of the consulate issuing your RDJ number.

    8. The medical exam doctor is extremely friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English.  His secretary is, well . . . .  a little difficult.  Make sure you have all the items they request on their sheet, including the 6 tiny photographs, and proof of your RDJ number.

    9. The medical exam office only accepts Brazilian Reis R$ 750-- no credit cards or dollars.  The xray, and blood/urine labs accept credit cards.

    Good luck,

    Mark

    Very helpful! Thanks!

    Makes sense.

Once you get approved it might take around 2-4 weeks for the case to get be received by NVC.

NVC takes around 4-5 weeks to create a case number for you once they receive the case. The case number is used to login to CEAC.

You pay fees at CEAC. Takes around a week to two weeks for them to process payments.

Once your payments are processed you can complete your DS-260, submit civil documents, and Affidavit of Support documents.

It's taking NVC around 8-9 weeks to review documents which is what @Caresse33 was referring to. The 8-9 weeks is from the day you submit the last document.

These are all estimates. It might take longer or shorter for some people.

This is very helpful. Thank you for this breakdown.

Well, actually, I was expecting that answer. We're Brazilians and my husband is an American's son. However, he never lived in the United States until 2019 when we decided to embark on this adventure. So he had no tax returns in previous years. Even though he made a lot of money of what they ask, I believe that because he did not have his taxes declared yet, he was not accepted and now we will need a co sponsor. That's bad because we'll have to ask for help, he has no relatives there. Another reason is because they didn't accept my Brazilian certificate because it has a new model and they said it is not accepted. So I'm going to send a very old one that I already had before I made a new one. And the silliest mistake I made was sending the I184 in an editable way. I feel dumb about this mistake but I'm already fixing it. I did it all by myself and I confess it was a lot for me the moment I sent it. On the other hand the other documents were accepted including the statement of why he has no tax yet. This all served as an apprenticeship and they are fixable. We will move on from here!

Which Brazilian cerficate are you referring to? I am collecting all documents (still no case number yet... but trying to get organized) so I would like to know all the ins and outs. Thanks for sharing this info! Good luck! This is such a special forum - it´s a place where we cheer for each other and try to be as helpful as we can. Don´t get discouraged - this is just a speedbump in a long road!
