congratulations, and thank you for the details!

The silver lining with the SSN is, that you'll have to make a stop there anyways (we're supposed to update our status to citizen, once naturalized) so you might be able to do it one-stop-shop

Had my interview today and was approved. No idea when the oath ceremony will be.

    The questions I was asked

    State that borders Canada
    number of senators
name a part of the government
    name of chief justice
who wrote the Declaration of Independence
what is the supreme law of the land

The examiner did remark that I had one of the thinnest files she’d seen for the length of time I’ve been here (37 years)

I was only asked to show my passports, green card and driver license.I of course took everything.

I was asked if I wanted to officially change my name. After a blank stare she explained that since my birth certificate doesn’t have my middle name on it, my certificate of naturalization won’t have my middle name on it. This is despite everything else including my social security card and my passport having my middle name. I decided not to since that would require a court oath and they are even more backed up than civil ceremonies. The down side of this is that I’ll probably have to change my social security card if I ever want to get a real id from the dmv (my husband, born in the USA,  found out he is in the same boat when he when he attempted to get his real Id license last year - no middle name on his birth certificate.).

You don’t have any choice so take what you have. No point in worrying about something you can’t fix before next week. The due date is July 15 so they can’t expect a filing before that date, right?

FWIW, at my interview they didn’t want to see anything including the original documents that I was supposed to bring according to their letter. Maybe it will be easier than you are imagining.

NOA? Notice of appointment? The letter with the date of the interview was there when I looked on March 13. I only logged into uscis because the app said the status had changed.

I think that people are more concerned about their health. Immigration and citizenship is secondary at this point.

You really do not want to try to game this system. While I think some of the paranoia around crossing your Ts and dotting your Is is unfounded, some of it definitely is not.

Assuming you are otherwise eligible for citizenship, the major deal breaker is lack of honesty. You might get citizenship if you are dishonest, but obtaining citizenship is not a “forever” thing if you failed to be truthful, even if the issue about which you were not truthful was relatively minor. Now the courts have actually held that deliberately not disclosing something that should have been disclosed is not necessarily a reason for citizenship to be revoked. But frankly who wants that hanging over their head?

I’m probably one of the longer serving LPRs here - I’ve been here 36 years and have only recently filed for citizenship. For me, it was that I simply could not make the pledge of allegiance in all honesty. But over the last couple of years I’ve come to realize that I do now have more in common with the USA than my own country and want to be a full member of this society. To vote and serve on a jury. To be able to contribute financially to political candidates.

You would think wouldn’t you? But since I have to upload my divorce decree from my first marriage and my marriage certificate  (both of which they already have from my green card application) I wouldn’t be so sure.

But I agree that your tax returns are a good option.

Specifically, while I know the date my first marriage ended, I have no idea when it began. Well I can probably work out a year, but everything else is less than memorable. Any suggestions?

woops - ignore me it’s on the divorce decree.
