If you already have a fully adjudicated I-751 (i.e. no 'combo interview') it is possible you got kicked down the curb some months as you have a 10-year green card now and can wait for the N-400 interview. I know of this happening to another Boston filer.

You were right! We got the invite for the I-751 interview as well, so it will be a combo interview! Yay!

Be on the lookout for another communication from the USCIS. A fellow Boston filer 2 months ahead of you received a separate notice indicating it would be a combo interview. Maybe the same happens for you. If so, please let us know.

As we are two months behind you, we have our fingers crossed we hear something soon. VERY cautiously optimistic, though.

Good news for us today!! Wanted to share with our Boston buddies. I check the case status daily, and today it said it is current as of today, which surprised me because up to this point, it stated the submission date as the date since they were "actively processing the case." So I logged in to the account to see if any additional details were there, and voila! The interview is scheduled for February! We are so relieved and excited!!! Best of luck to everyone still waiting! There is hope!

    TastyCake got a reaction from Cata&Ben in N400 - October 2022 Filers
As of today, November 1, 2023, we are:

    374 days for N400 (Naturalization)

    737 days for I751 (10-year green card)

People have been leapfrogging us across the country and it is NOT appreciated.  We are tired of the excuses.

Attorneys, Senator office... nobody is of any help whatsoever.

What a hemorrhoid the OP would be to have this as one of the questions on a citizenship test given the volatility in the House these days.

TastyCake got a reaction from SalishSea in Writ of Mandamus guidance
I would like some guidance from people who have prior experience with the use of a writ of mandamus for immigration purposes.  I don't want amateur responses.  Either an immigration lawyer or someone with firsthand knowledge of the process please.

We have now hit the one-year mark for our N400 and TWO-YEAR mark for our I-751 and are now at wit's end.  We're on the cusp of going with a WoM.  This is because the senator's office is about as much help as a bad case of acne and we see others from our local USCIS office in the same exact situation who have been waiting on their N-400 for months longer with no movement.  This whole situation is absolutely ridiculous, unacceptable and inexcusable.

It seems if nothing changes we will technically be considered outside normal processing in early December.

    1) What additional steps should we take before we go the WoM route?  We have made periodic inquiries at the USCIS.  We engaged our senator's office TWICE with nothing coming from it.  Do we first wait until we are outside of normal processing and then get a Tier 2 officer involved?  I want to make sure we lay the proper groundwork as a foundation for a WoM if all else fails (i.e. "Yes, your Honor, we did do X, Y and Z with no movement or results")

    2) What are the criteria for a WoM to be successful?  What are all the steps to take initially? (maybe this is a repeat of question #1 above)

    3) We have BOTH an I-751 and N-400 outstanding.  So would this be TWO WoMs?  If a WoM runs circa $5k, would that hit our wallet to the tune of $10k?

Thanks in advance for any valuable guidance experienced people can offer us.

Question for you, Mike.  If both cases are still within USCIS's processing times, would a WoM still be helpful?

It isn't like we had an interview and a decision is still pending.  I also don't know if it's been long enough given other people's situations.

We did my wife's N-400 online 6 months ago.  It seems (operative word) the I-751 (which we referenced in a 'cover letter' of sorts for our N-400) got subsequently yanked from the Petrified Forest... aka Vermont Service Center... and I believe (operative word) it is now paired with our N-400 and is currently collecting dust in Lee's Summit, MO.  Perhaps waiting for the local office in Boston to say they are ready for our cases??? (I ask rhetorically)

Our N-400 is 6 months old but our I-751 is technically 18 months old.

Probably the most distressing thing right now is when I run a VJ report of Bostonians in the same position as us I see people who filed an N-400 a few months BEFORE us ostensibly waiting for some movement.  So what does that tell us?

I have no idea why there is such a lack of progress in Boston.  Are the USCIS employees there too busy watching the Bruins on the big screen to adjudicate cases in a timely manner?

Last year we fell for the 'File your N-400 because it helps to speed things up' recommendation.  The truth of the matter is it hasn't done a thing.  We are now writing our Senators asking for help but I don't expect that to bring positive results.  We'll try anyway.

I personally feel they'll find Jimmy Hoffa before we ever see movement on our open cases from the USCIS.  It's so frustrating.  You do all you're asked to do in a timely manner, submit impeccable packages only to be held up by nonsense.

Best of luck to you and yours and all our hopes that your 'distractions' get reconciled soon.  🙂
