    Why do you need it?

Good question! So long story short, we did our adjustment of status interview this past June, yesterday we got an RFE and one of the stuff on the list is a police clearance which I’m surprised since I thought if I’m adjusting from the US that I don’t need it and that the biometrics is part of the background check.

I bet you'll be approved. But I still think it is safer to avoid traveling until you get an update.

You can always call customer service and ask for a Tier 2, to know if there's some news on your case.

I think I’ll call tomorrow just to inquire and after talking to my husband about it, we decided that it’s best for me to just wait. And I hope you are right about getting approve. 😁

That could be the reason why you were the only one signing. Did he explain removal of conditions?

If the interviewing officer is not senior, they still need get the files reviewed by a supervisor, who will be the one actually approving.

That's why not everyone gets immediate approvals.

No, I wonder if they only explain ROC if you got approved on the spot.  We did touch based about ROC because he was asking paperwork that normally a couple would send during ROC.

Didn't you read what it said?

The paper we signed had two parts: one for the officer, one for us. We received our part a few days after they approved our case.

The delay for us was due to the K1 being missing at the time of the interview. The officer never said we were approved but she made us sign the paper anyway.

Did you adjust from a K1?

To be honest, when he said he will still need to review our case, my high hopes of getting approved on the spot went away. That I wasn’t even paying attention when I signed, but I do remember him signing first before he asked me to sign .

I adjusted from F1 that overstayed.

Yes. We both signed a paper that described briefly the removal of conditions and actually said we were approved. It had an empty field that was later stamped with the date of our approval.

    Did you sign something?

Yes I did, I’m the beneficiary. She asked me to sign something. And it’s just me not my husband and it’s not about us being approved coz he never say we are approve on the spot.

    Hey everyone!

I arrived here in the USA last May. Now I'm wanting to apply for a job, let's say I already have my Green Card, Drivers License, and Social Security Number.

Are there other legal things I need to do so I can apply for a job, maybe like getting a Tax Identification Number just like back in the Philippines? Do I need health insurances?

Also I'm planning to move out from the current place/home I'm staying at. Can I just inquire for a place to rent, will they look for any documents, etc?

Looking forward to your answers, thanks!

Once you have your green card and social security number then you can apply for a job.  You don’t need a Tax identification number, that’s only for people who doesn’t have SSN and is about to file their tax return.

Good question.  I would think it would really complicate things if a denial was given while out of the country.  How would you get back in?

Yeah the whole “what if I got denied” thing did cross my mind. Thank you

The answer from two immigration officers when we asked the very same question was, literally: there is no issue IF you get approved. Though the AP would be automatically cancelled if approved, CBP officers can check your status and grant you entry.

From the same immigration officers: now, if you get denied, you'll be in trouble. :P

Getting a request for more evidence would have no impact whatsoever and would actually be the "safest" option.

Despite being assured we could enter the country just by being approved, with no GC in hand and just with a cancelled AP, we decided not to risk a thing and wait.

It’s so tricky isn’t it!?! I guess I’ll just wait, I just wish our IO would make up his mind already, my husband and I already prepared more proof just Incase they ask for more.

I have ave a question, after your interview did your IO asked you or whoever is the beneficiary to sign something?

  8. So basically I just want to know if it’s okay to travel using my AP while I’m waiting for my interview result.

I had my interview June 6 and the interviewer said that he will review our case and either approve it or ask for more proof.  I know I can’t inquire until 3 months from the time of my interview.  I’m planning to go home middle of August and be back first week of September.

Im about to file my documents for adjustment of status, I arrived in the US 3 month ago, I married a US citizen in 2018. My daughter who is 11 years old lives in the US on a B2 visa, but as an immediate relative and a minor she can also have her status adjusted. I am filing the following forms for myself:

    I-130

    I-130a

    I-131

    I-485

    I-693

    I-765

    I-864

For my daughter I am filing:

    I-130

    I-485

    I-693

Can someone pleaseeeeeee help me to calculate how much I should be paying USCIS. Should I do 2 separate checks, one for my daugther and one for me? If so how much would each of us have to pay?

I think you are looking at 3,045

So I have read on here that most people are doubling the evidence for each of the following forms?? So they are adding 2 passport photo to EACH of the form, marriage certificate, copy of passport, copy of I-94 form etc all to each and every single form. Is this correct? I thought If I just sent all of the forms with just one of the requested documents is all I needed??

Can someone shed some light here?? The passport photo copy alone is around 30 pages!

    1. I-864
    2. I-485
    3. I-765 (optional)
    4. I-131 (optional)
    5. G-1145 (optional)

Yup, so you need 6 passport photos, you don’t need a photo for I-864, and what do you mean with  the passport photocopy is around 30 pages? You only need a photocopy of your passports identification page, where your photo and name is, you don’t photocopy the entire passport.

I hope she approves you! Try and get your names on as much as possible together. If you need to join a club or a gym with both your names on the membership then that would be good too. I think you’ll be fine though

Yeah I hope so too, I’m so ready for this to be over hehe, at least for now coz I know in two years I have to tackle the ROC.  I’m just tired collecting documents to show them haha.  From the time I sent our AOS, the only hiccup was I have to redo my biometrics, other than that it was smooth sailing, no RFE or RFIE, so we went to the interview feeling confident, I mean nervous but confident about our relationship.  Thank you for the vote of confidence hehe. And yes, we will try to add my name to other stuff, we talked to my mother in law and asked if we can put our names on the utility bills.  She talked about health insurance, but we told her my husband can’t add me until November of this year when the open enrollment time is.  I will let you know what the outcome is as soon as I get an update. Enjoy the gym and good luck.

Okay, great! Thank you! I am a huge stress head and I can’t stop thinking about it. I went in an hour later to give my vaccination records and I handed it to the main desk in person but I have all these ‘what if she doesn’t give it to the officer’ questions in my head. I keep thinking of worse case scenarios 😂😂😂. I’m going to have a nice cup of tea and head to the gym to distract myself

So did she give you guys an RFE?

So far no, she didn’t really gave us an answer, she said she will review it again and maybe she will approve it or she will send us a letter asking for more evidence. So it’s up in the air hahaha. So frustrating.

Wow, my interview was so different. I didn’t send any documents with my husband and i’s name or any proof with the initial AOS document and at the interview he said he only needed me Since we were already approved for k1 and got married in 90 days. He said I didn’t need any proof hahahahaha. It’s weird how different everyone’s interviews are! I wonder how they determine whether they want proof or not?

My husband and I were pondering this and maybe it’s because they’re concerned if we will become reliant on the state so they ask for more proof but if the spouse makes a lot more over what is required, maybe they don’t need proof? I don’t know... It’s a mind boggle to me

Exactly! I mean we sent 4 pages of pictures ranging from 2012 to now and she said she wants to see the progression of our relationship.  So the fact that our 2012 pictures doesn’t look like our 2019 pictures is not progression enough? Heheh I mean so from 2012 to now is not enough progression? My husband and I were thinking, if she wants all this medical insurance and other bills now, what is there left when ROC time comes.  We explained to her why we didn’t have enough as of right now.  We may have been married May of 2018 but I didn’t get my ssn until late May of this year.  When we got home my husband tried to put me on the cable bill and he was able to do it.  Then he told me the cable guy he was talking too didn’t even ask for anything other than my name, in my husbands head, so how can someone prove it’s a real relationship based on a cable bill.  We explained to her why we didn’t have utility bill, the house we are renting is own by my mother in law, so the electricity and water bill is under their names.

I think you will be fine. He didn't request or ask for any proof of relationship at all eh? So different from the other interview posted here, where interviewer kept demanding "joint accounts in the name of the Law!"

Check your status in a few days, hopefully it will update!

It’s funny you said that, I had my interview today and everything was smooth sailing but the woman kept hammering us about more documents with our name together. The only one we have is the recent tax return.  She only asked us our marriage date and she asked my husband my parents name.  We have 4 pages of different pictures ranging from 2012 to now, and seems to be wanting text messages proof. She said she wants to see the progression of our relationship.  We told her we maybe married last year but I didn’t get my ssn until April of this year.  She said she will review our case again and decide if it will be approved or send a letter asking for more documents.

Agreed, and thanks for the response. Like you said, it's better to just have the documents on hand even if we already submitted it. Good luck at your interview!

Thank you! Yeah, I even read someone’s interview experience and they asked for her husbands photocopy of his drivers license, since it’s the one he used I guess as ID to enter the building or something.  So they ended up doing a photocopy of it after their interview.  So I figured I’ll just photocopy my husbands drivers license also, same with my EAD/AP card. I’m excited and nervous at the same time.  I just want for this whole waiting to be over.
