  5. ~~Moved to AOS Family K1/K3 P&P, from K1 P&P- the OP is asking about AOS.~~
  6. The wording you used is the exact issue. You said you would be returning to Canada and making your permanent move later. Yes, the mere act of gaining PR in the US is when you endorse the visa. You cannot be a a resident in Canada while claiming to US immigration that you are a US PR the day you crossed. Your last Canadian taxes you will mark the day that visa was endorsed. That is the day they will go by for everything. I swear I'm not making this stuff up. They have nailed many ppl for this, it may take them years but they do it all the time. Anyway, I won't be derailing this thread any longer.
  7. Yes 16 years old needs one too. You may need to ask for someone else if they give you a hard time.
  8. ~~Moved to Moving Here and Your New life, from K1 P&P- as the topic is not specific to the K1 Process, but judgement and lack of support from family and friends.~~
  9. ~~Moved to Effects of Major Family Changes, from AOS from K1 P&P- the OP is past the K1 AOS stage and similar threads are discussed here.~~
  10. I had a few surgeries and my daughter had an emergency appendectomy. They didn't need the records. They may know how hard it is to actually get those records in Canada and the cost to even try.
  11. ~~Moved to What Visa DO I Need, from K1 P&P - as a K1 visa is not for this purpose.~~
  12. Hijack post has been removed. Poster already has an existing thread.~~
  13. ~~Moved to IR1/CR1 P&P, from Bringing Family of USC- As the OP will be starting the visa process for spouse and CR's for children.~~
  14. Well they can contract you out and then you do something that way. I don't know how that part works but that was something other members have done. Oh no they will treat you as a non resident to squeeze every last cent they can out of you. Especially when you sell that house.
  15. CRA will go by the date you cross the border to endorse the visa. That is the date you will mark on your exit taxes.
  16. We used to have a member who worked on the Canadian side of the border for CBP. She had to pay taxes for Health care and still could not use it. Now if your employer has the added on Dental you pay, you can use that as it is fully paid by your employer and you, but any health care cover add ons are supplemental and you can't use them. For taxes yes you would continue to pay for 2023 and 2024 but no you can't use the medical. They do not care if you continue to work in Canada and pay into the health care. Your residence would be in the US and that is what they go by.
  17. I'm not sure, I've just seen others say the employer needs to change your tax status.
  18. I'm sorry but that is not how it works and you can see why this causes so much confusion for Canadians. It's not like a work visa, or student visa. With even a K-1 Visa which is a non immigrant visa they consider you no longer a resident on the day you cross and get that visa endorsed. When you cross the border to endorse the visa you are no longer a resident of Canada, because that is the date you tell the US you are now a US PR. When you file your exit taxes you will mark the day the visa is endorsed. If you get baby bonus, whatever the GST is call now they all go by the date the visa is stamped. If you get any of those they will want their money back for that month and they will be the first to figure it out. The 212 days outside the US is for students and snowbirds, not someone who shows up at the border with a visa declaring that on this day you are a US PR. That is how they decide you are no longer a Canadian Resident. Over the years we have had many Canadians end up with a bill. I'm not making this up, it's experience and time on here that has proven otherwise.
  19. The day you enter the US you are a US PR and no longer a Canadian resident. For CRA they will be told when you file your taxes and mark your entry date on your tax returns. If your employer is willing to tax you as a non resident employee then yes. Make sure you also no longer use the Canadian health care system, even though you are taxed for it. As you will not be a resident of Canada and can no longer use the system. Yes it sucks as you will continue to pay for it. Now if your employer offers dental that is separate from Health Canada and you can use those benefits. If you have a house to sell it is best sell before your endorse your visa. The tax hit, and hassles from moving before the sale have been talked about year after year.
  20. Like everyone else here is saying. Meet do not get married at this first visit. Make the visit as long as you can. Spend as much time as possible with her friends and family too. Then go home and start planning and saving for another trip. With High fraud countries getting married the first trip together is a sure fire way to be denied. Especially if it is a short visit.
  21. As others have mentioned the medical cannot be done in the US. Only one hic-up here. Once your wife endorses her visa she is no longer a resident of Canada and cannot use the Canadian health care system. Many on here will disagree because if you called the Health Canada all you are talking to is the call center. They will read the part like students and snowbirds retain their health care. But once it reaches the ppl who investigate these things you will get a hefty bill, it's not fast but they are cracking down in this stuff and inforcing it. Don't do it. If she is really close do not endorse the visa and wait until baby is born. Then you will also have to do CRBA to bring baby into the US. You can add your wife on to your health care through your employer the minute she moves. Moving to be with a spouse is enough reason to add her on. They do not need her SSN, they might give you a hard time but they truly do not need it. Get her added asap. Plan on delivering in the US so get that ball rolling now.
  22. Yes I know full well what the guidelines says. But just like everything else in Canada they do things differently. It's get a waiver of get the vaccines, the clinics/doctors will not release the medical until one or the other is done.
  23. Most vaccine series, such as Hep A or B, MMR you only have to have the first shot to get it started, but for Covid it has it's own rule and it needs to be completed.
  24. It's the way the Canadian doctors are has been for this way for almost 20yrs. They will not release the medical without all vaccines completed. That is unless you are going to get a waiver. In Canada a K1 cannot forgo the vaccines until they enter the US. It has to be done or the medical will not be completed.
