  1. Ok so an update for whoever might be interested. We didn't include all previous name change evidence this time. We sent the package off on the 15th, it has been delivered on the 18th and i got USCIS text notification today (20th) stating the receipt number and that they will be mailing the official receipt notice too. They haven't charged us yet, at least it doesnt show on our bank account.

  2. I used other names before and mentioned them throughtout my K-1 and adjustment of status process and provided legal name change evidence/proof already.

I will also mention all those name in my I-751 application but should I include the evidence again? Thats so many papers that they should already have on file. I can't find any info on this in the instructions and don't want to overcomplicate things by sening extra papers they might not need. I guess my question is pretty straight forward. Should I include legal name change papers again? Would you?

If your employer offers insurance, then the start date for insurance will depend on the job. Usually either insurance will start immediately with the job or (less commonly) after 30 or 60 days.

You do not need a qualifying event to start employer-based insurance with a new job.

So qualifying event and special enrolment period only applies if i get health insurance from the marketplace? employer-based insurance is a completely different story? thank you!!!

you can and the site posted walks you thru the process to cancel the plan

i know i can cancel anytime. my question is if i can get a new insurance through work anytime during the year or it depents on what that particular job offers?

i heard about life qualifying event and that getting a new job is not considered a qualifying event for special enrollment. this is what confuses me

  5. Hi people!

We are about to get insured for the next year through marketplace.

My husband doesn't have any health coverage through work at the moment since he's been working per diem.

The plan is to get something more stable either full time or part-time at the beginning of next year.

My question is - will we be stuck with the insurance from the marketplace all the way until next year enrollment or there is a change to switch to something different through employment once my husband starts a new job?

Hi, I have some questions about insurance. I am 21 and my fiance is 24 - he has a health issue that means it's cheaper for him to stay on his parents insurance rather than the one at work. However, now that I am arriving it's important for me to have insurance too. I've been looking at the government marketplace for health insurance and it doesn't seem too expensive - however, does taking government subsidised insurance affect my greencard application in any way? Does that make me a public charge?

Thank you for any advice or resources.

It doesn't. If you are talking about obamacare marketplace it should not affect your application. I assume you need to be either adjusting your status already or have a green card. You are not eliible for Medicare or Medicaid or food stamps.

Did the officer tell you anything about it?
I guess you just go through background check which is pretty common and sometimes it takes time. Hope you’ll see update soon!

How many background checks you have to go through? 😅 What was the one for the visa then to get here? I feel like its the same thing over and over.

The officer didn't tell us much, he gave us a letter of continuance which says that the interview is completed, they have to review it and if they need something else, they'll let us know. And that once they make a decision they will mail it to us. The letter says up to 120 days but i guess its standart.

  8. So I was waiting to see what to update you with, but there is not much to share. We had our interview a week ago and since then there was no status update or anything. It still says "Interview Was Scheduled".

I just don't get why some people get approved right away and some people have to wait for something, even though its all pretty clear.

Forgot to mention that we got our EAD card already.

I'm so happy to find this thread. I actually got my NOA of I-485 on May 31, but it was very quiet on May 2019 thread 🙃

I am both feeling happy and nervous. Congratulations to those who have scheduled their interviews! Please update here how it will be going!

Also, some people got the same RFE about birth certificate. I wonder why many of use get the same RFE even though we have sent the right one.

I received RFE about birth certificate,  even though I've sent the copy of my original bilingual (Indonesian-English) birth certificate. I replied the RFE by sending them the same document and I also sent an original translation by sworn translator. They updated the status, on Aug 13 they have received my RFE response and saying they're currently working on my case again.

For those who got RFE, have you had any updates or responses from USCIS about your RFE? How long do you get your interview notice after they received your reply of RFE?

I feel you, I feel the same. There is only so much Netflix you can watch. Recently, I've started doing some courses on Udemy to kill time. But each and every day feels soooooooooooooo long. Hopefully it will get over soon.

Guys, what about seeing places and exploring, travelling? What about books, online courses, museums, parks, home workouts, going to the gym, parks, going for a walk?

Dont you have any hobbies? Gardening, plants, I don’t know, but there are things to enjoy in this life for some period of time to avoid getting depressed or bored.

You don’t have to be going to school or college to study something. You can volunteer at the church, help people or learn a new language in the meantime..

Glad to hear June filers are getting their letters and I also hope to see more status update this week!

At the same time I have a concern about my interview. There was a misspelling of my father's last name in our marriage license (in California marriage certificate and marriage license are issued on the same paper). With our AOS package we submitted the marriage certificate we already had (with the misspelling) and also included the forms of amending marriage certificate along with an explanation letter. We decided to do so because as we have been told in California it can take up to 8 weeks to receive amended marriage certificate. Honestly I was expecting RFE, so we send the forms to amend our marriage certificate in late May just to be ready for the RFE. Long story short in July we received the reply (from Center for Health Statistics and Informatics, Vital Records) that we made a mistake in the form for amendment (after all those uscis forms it's almost unbelievable lol) so we had to resubmit it in July.

So today, 1.5 months after,  I received another reply stating that they cannot process our request on time since our courthouse didn't send our records on time. Try in 8-12 weeks they said! I called them and explained the situation with the interview and that their letter made me worry a lot whether it's all good with our marriage record. They told me that our marriage is legal, no issues with that, just the courthouse has been busy. They suggested me to postpone AOS interview (thanks, no) or just show officer the letters about delaying the process of amendment and explain the officer that everything is fine, but just slow.

Now I'm worried that it may delay the result of the interview :( I know that there's nothing I can do and I even understand that if we haven't received RFE before it's probably all good. Any opinions or suggestions?

I personally would go with the papers I had. It may delay the result and may not, you never know. But I would not reschedule my AOS interview for sure. I feel like the officer might ask you to just send the fixed marriage license once you receive it.

I traveled on July (aos still pending). Make sure to take your passport, copy of noas, biometrics with stamp and marriage certificate. I didn't take any of this, only my marriage certificate, because I submitted my application that same week, but a TSA officer told me it was important to carry those. I was also asked if I was alone or traveling with someone.

    Don't leave the US though!!

Thanks to everyone, who responded ❤️

We just booked a flight to Nashville, so it’s within the US 😁 I used my maiden name for the passengers information as it stated that I have to use the same name as on my travel photo ID, even though I applied for AOS with my married name. I’ll for sure bring all the other useful papers with me. I usually have them around even when I go out just in case 😂
