Thanks, I couldn’t believe it myself and even the immigration officer said we were very lucky as it normally takes over a year after marriage.  my wife got here in February,  we married in March and Green card approved this month in August. I’m still like wow myself I was expecting the green card interview next year honestly no joke.

Right, your timeline is kind of similar to mine and I heard the same thing that your officer said, this is why I’m like whaaaat 😂 you just came and already approved for the green card! anyways, that’s great!!

  2. We are this year June filers based in Miami!

I don’t have much expectations from the local office, but still full of hope to at least receive my EAD by the end of the year 😄

What about i-131, guys? Has anybody been approved for it and traveled outside the US with this Travel Document?

I would also want to encourage people to get a Library Card! Did you know that with the passes they offer you can actually go and enjoy so many places to free? Like Viscaya Museum or Deering Estate or even a Zoo.

And the Railroad museum has a free admission for every Saturday of the month till December!

I hope this information will be useful for somebody 😁

Hi! So happy for you. Can you tell us when did you send your package?

I sent mine on June 22nd, they received it on June 24th. I am just trying to see the pattern here. So far I can tell that people who filed late May - early/mid June are getting such updates.

We sent our packet on the 4th June and they received it on the 5th, so it’s the early June :)

  4. Hi people!

A long story short. I came to the US, got marries within 90 days, was able to apply for SSN a month before my I-94 expired.

Social Security officer made us apply with my maiden name (the one on the travel document) even though I was already married and had my marriage certificate on me. He mentioned that we can just change the name after I receive my card. OK. Around two weeks later I have received my Social Security card with my maiden name on it, we went to Social Security Administration and requested a name change.

In a meantime we have been applying for Adjustment of Status to be able to sent all the documents boforere I-94 expires. Did it. Two day later I receive a letter from Social Security saying that

"You Immigration Documents will expire in less then 30 days. We are unable to process Your request. We need an immigration document valid for more then 30 days. Please contact us when you can give us documents we need."

Kind of makes sence and doesn't at the same time.

I have a Social Security number and a card, but I have it on my maiden name. Is it valid along with marriage certificate? Its not that I extremely need it right now, but they alredy issued SSN that I can use. How come name change is such a problem. What kind of prood do they need? Will NOA1 be enough to show them when I receive it?

Don't have to submit it unless any of your documents are in different names.

Personally, my birth certificate has a different last name than my passport due to a legal name change; I submitted the name change certificate because I imagine it wouldn't make sense otherwise. I assume it's expected, because I had to do the same when I was getting a passport in Canada; in fact, getting a replacement passport in my legal name, which I changed when I turned 18, was an issue without the certificate that I changed my name in the first place--even though my previous passport was in that name.

So I personally would include that paperwork to be safe, but the instructions don't explicitly mention it I don't think.

    Thank you!

I will submit birth certificate in different name and I have an adoption decree that specify the name change. But I changed it again years after because of my parents divorce. So I don't know if I should submit two name changes, because I assume submitting one can only confuse them.

USCIS was pretty clear with other names used for I-129, but its a bit confusing for AoS. They might already have copies of evidence from the K1 interview back from where I came.

  6. Hi guys!

We are currently collecting all the paperwork to apply for AoS from K1.

We got married within 90 days.

While filling out I-485, I will mention other names used. In my case I had few other last and middle names used prior maiden or married names.

I have mentioned them during K1 process and submitted proof like (adoption decree, deed poll name change (UK) during the interview and had no issues.

My question is, while mentioning other names used since birth again during AoS, do I have to submit any proof/evidence and send it with the packet?

I can't see any requirements goingt through instrcuctions.

    Thank you

A social security number should not be a prerequisite for your marriage license. If you have one, then you give it. But if you are a foreigner who does not have a SSN yet, then you can't give one. Ring up the clerks office that issues marriage licenses and ask.  I know my county website said SSN, but when I rang them and said he was a foreigner, they said no problem. His passport was all he needed.

    Thanks!

My question is more that are we taking right steps? People say its useful to get SSN before marriage, so I wonder if I need to actually receive the card in mail before I take the next step and get married or to apply for SSN is enough, I get married and receive card in few days later? I know i don't need it in court.

  8. Hi guys,

Would you please guide me and advise on steps that I need to take.

I arrived two weeks ago on K1 and believe it is a good time to apply for Social Security Number, as they should already have me in the system.

What does the process look like and how long does it take?

Lets say we apply tomorow, would it be possible to get married in a few days or I have to actually receive SSN and then get married in court?

We're going to have a look, the 11th works well as I can get a lift down to Heathrow then instead of fighting with tube/trains and whatnot :)

Heathrow is so much better to drive to than Gatwick though :P But that's worked out amazingly for your dates hasn't it and the cruises. I guess it's the downside of Detroit being the main airport for us, it's not quite a tourist hotspot for leisure flights is it.

Going to have a little play as I can get a return for Feb/Mar 2020 and it'll be £650 ish on Delta's sight so

The initial post had the mention of a story that someone was denied or questioned on AOS as it showed them leaving the country. But Wuozopo has advised pretty much a very rare occurrence so :) Just me over thinking

i was more concerned about getting one way ticket, cause read here somewhere that airlines never heard of k1 and didn't want to let the person get on board 😄 as he didnt have a return ticket

  10. Whats wrong with just cacelling? You get the confirmation email anyway. I am sure there are bigger records on the systems if you left the country or not, than your flight tickets

  11. What wil you do with your debit/credit cards? Will you keep them open? Notify of the name change? I am a bit confused about what to do with mu accounts.

Pay off any credits you might be having.

I closed one of my credit card accounts.

    Think of any direct debits.

Same with uk driving licence and hmrc. How will you notify them about your name/address change?

I knew my fiance for quite a while and we knew each other ex-es. When we started actively dating, our ex-es started to talked and talked each other into relationship. So there are two K-1 cases in the Moscow embassy. I bet it is unusual, but not unheard of. We all have 2 kids (4 total) from the previous marriages. The agreement was that my fiance's older son is coming to live with us and her younger son is staying/moving with his dad as they are very close.

My fiance had her interview in Moscow on January 15th. With "I have nothing to hide" attitude she told that her younger son is likely moving to the US with his dad which reasonably led to a set of questions, Administrative Processing status and her passport returned with a cancelled US visitor visa.

Couple of days later my kids told me that my ex and my fiance's ex broke-off and are not going to pursue K-1 any longer. Suspecting that it is material to our K-1 case I wrote a note in the visa appontment system feedback tool. Our case last update day was changed the day after. Our ex-es I129f expired on February 16 or about. I was expected some update afterwards. Yesterday date changed, but our case still in the Administrative Processing state.

What is the best course of action now? Is there a way to get any visibility of what is going on?

This is so confusing. Why do you have to deal with you exes petition/interview/whatever they have. Concentrate on your own case. Imagine you didn't have any information on what you ex is dealing with. I might be wrong, but to my opinion it should not be your problem to deal with. Don't overwhelm yourself with any extra updates.

I'll be arranging to check in an extra case-it's usually around about £75 for that, seems reasonable to me but need to check to be sure.

you mean at the airport? i thought of that, but not sure if its even possible.

british airways ask you to upgrade to economy premium or something similar for around £300 for you to be able to take 2 carry on luggages. so confusing(

And since your petition/application will be process via the Embassy..

K Visa Applicants –  pay the MRV application fee via the Consular Section’s Visa Information and Appointment Services contractor prior to the visa interview.  Information regarding payment will be provided to you in your visa interview appointment letter.

Have you received the appointment letter?

Sandly, but the appointment letter doesn't provide you with the link of where to pay the fee. Since K1 is half immigrant/half not it can be very confusing with all the information they give.
