What happens when you search your ROC case number on the USCIS website? You can check the status two ways, through https://egov.uscis.gov/ and through your myUSCIS account.

I don't know who told you to apply for a replacement card, but that wasn't the right advice. USCIS will not replace an expired card. Your only option from now on is to keep getting stamps on your passport/delivered to you if your case is still active.

If you current ROC case was in fact denied, you will need to reapply ASAP (like tomorrow). This will give "your status back". With that you will be able to get the stamp I mentioned before. Leaving the country without it will result in abandoning your LPR status.

At the end of the day the choice is your: is traveling now and staying there for years until a new immigration case is filed more important?

If being treated as a resident for the full year, they must report the foreign income, that will later be excluded by form 2555.

Does Turbo Tax asks you if you are a LPR or if you are a resident? In order to file jointly, you must be considered a resident for tax purposes, that's not the same as being a Permanent Resident per USCIS. The tax form doesn't ask what your immigration status is, that's why it's odd if they are asking if you are a LPR. If they are asking if you are a resident, you can say yes (as you elect to be treated as a resident for tax purposes). I'm not sure if turbo tax have that, but usually that choice is made by signing a letter asking to be treated as a resident.

If you are both W2 employees, you both probably messed up your W4s. Make sure you follow Step 2 to account for multiple jobs in the household and don't own the same amount next year.

In terms of MFJ vs MFS, I doubt filing MFS will bring any advantages to total tax owned.

You must file as married. At this stage, your spouse most likely doesn't have SSN, so you can either file separately by paper, or apply for an ITIN and file jointly.

You can still elect to be treated at resident alien for the whole year in order to file jointly.

The issue was that the letter was also expired. They left without a stamp. If the letter is still within validity, there should be no issues.

You must file for ROC with a divorce waiver. You could've done that as soon as you got your devorce decree. No need to wait.

Then that's your choice to believe in what they say. Civil Surgeons don't work for USCIS. They want their money, that's why most of the times they will perform the whole medical when it's not required for K1, just to get the money.

I'm showing what the policy is. And the policy is pretty clear when it says that it's NOT required.

The best example I heard is to compare it with a supermarket.

One cashier can be faster than the other. One customer might have a cart full of groceries, the other might have only a small basket. So if two people arrive at different lines at the same time, there's no guarantee they will leave at the same time.

Ayrton got a reaction from Sam and Viv in AOS Name change? when to do it?
The marriage certificate is a name change document accepted by USCIS. That's true even if the marriage certificate doesn't list the new last name (some states have a field for new last name, some don't). There's no need to update the SSC before filing for AOS with the new name.

The same applies to the SSA. You don't need to update your name with immigration before changing the name on the SSC, as long as the name change document is dated after the last issued immigration document they have, and their status is current.
