    It's 2018 now and everything is still the same. I called both NVC and SSA but no one knows about this type of SSN application. What a joke!

    kookee got a reaction from A&U in Help Needed: upgrading I-130 from F2A to Immediate relative of USC
    USCIS had approved my case after my post. My case was at USCIS for 9.5 months in total (California).

    For my case, it took USCIS:
    3 weeks to upgrade to USC (after calling them to get the Service Request #). 5 weeks to approve after USC upgrade. 2 weeks for the case to be delivered to NVC. In NVC, I had to wait 8 weeks for my case to be entered to their system and 1 more week to pay the AOS bill.

    Hope this helps.

    So an update on our SSN: It has been almost 6 weeks since POE and no card has arrived in the mail. We went to the Social Security office today and they told us my wife was nowhere to be found in the system. I could only laugh and remember what it says on the Social Security website:

    "If you apply for a Social Security number (SSN) card when you apply for an immigrant visa, you can save yourself time and worry. If you use this process, you won't have to:
    Find a Social Security office near your new home;

      Go in person to the Social Security office;

      Wait in line;

      Apply for a Social Security number at a local Social Security office. Instead, the U.S. government will use the same information that you give to apply for an immigrant visa to apply for an SSN. Then, once you arrive in the U.S., you can expect your SSN card at your mailing address in about 3 weeks.
    One less thing to worry about as you settle in your new country!"

    Wow, so we basically ended up doing everything they say we wouldn't have to do by applying with the visa. What a completely idiotic message to put on the website when there are clearly many issues with applying for a SSN on the visa application. They make a point to showcase on their website everything those of us not fortunate enough to have the system work as it should have to worry about. They suck!

    Haha, had to get that off my chest. Anyway, we were waiting about an hour up to that point and all I can say is that the people waiting along with you are quite the colorful cast of weirdos. Those government benefits offices sure do attract some real clowns. Pretty shady crowd and shady part of town.

    We made it through the line, presented green card and birth certificate, and 10 minutes later we were told we would be receiving the SSN card in the mail within 2 weeks. Problem solved, no thanks to the very sucky system they have in place for you to check a box that may or may not (most likely not) result in you getting your SSN automatically sent shortly after POE. Why would anyone check no on the visa application? Why not just automatically apply for SSN for everyone? Is there anyone who would really not want to automatically apply for SSN, or do they think we really want to waste our time with a bunch of weirdos? Obviously not the case, because they posted on their website that it is a benefit to not have to wait in their awful office with those people! Rant over.

    Please, refrain from commenting if you do not have the knowledge. The OP is going through a CR1 process, the evidence needed is slightly different than the one for a K1 and Nigeria IS a high fraud country. Remember that your particular circumstances don't necessarily apply to others. In this case, there's no harm and the OP has already received great advise; but your answer can misinform other members.

    I just called NVC. They scheduled my interview on Sep 07.

    My priority date is June 02, 2017. I guess they base on the priority date at USCIS, not the Case Completed at NVC.

    Thank you. Wishing you the same. Since your CC is just a few days after mine, you should get the interview in September.

    To all people asking about DS-260, you have to complete DS-260 first and after NVC review it, you can send in both AOS & IV package in one envelope. This is the instruction I was told from a service agent on phone when my case was at NVC.

    If CC means Case Completed at NVC so mine is July 03.
    I reached out to a VisaJourney user who recently got his interview scheduled and here his response: "The NVC is not very helpful officially, but my understanding from other people's comments on the forum is that they start scheduling each month in the last week of the second month before.  If this is correct, they didn't have an August interview slot available for you, and they will start scheduling September interviews either next week or the following week. "

    So I guess it should be within 3 weeks of Case Completed at NVC, the interview will be scheduled.

    Hi all,
    NVC approved my AOS and IV package for CR1 class immigrant visa for Spouse of US Citizen. It has been 2 weeks already and still no appointment yet. I called them and they said they can not give me an estimated time for interview scheduling.

    Anyone here can give me an estimated time for their CR1 case at US Consulate in HCMC ?

    Thank you

    Have you done her ssn application?
    If not, I did change the names order myself.
    U must call CBP at the airport where she entered to the states. Then provide them the passport#, firstname lastname and best contact in case they will call you back. (If they ask to leave the message, dnt worry just leave the message and they will call u back in2-3 days) Then just ask them to switch the names order over the phone. Once they say its done. Just go ahead to print the new I94 online. Bring this i94 to SSA office and you should be good.

    This link doesn't give details on civil documents that it asks for on the cover sheet and doesn't answer the OP question, this is often confusing for people as there's no details on that.

    The cover sheet is very general cause it applies to many different visa types and situations.

    Here are the details under the Petitioners Documents section.
    As you can see there's a good chance you don't need to include anything if you are a US citizen and haven't been divorced etc.

    No you need it professionally appraised and mortgage deducted from that appraisal.  Only homes and cars are not generally considered because it causes undue hardship on the USC if they need to be sold.

    it sounds like you meet the minimum requirement with you home, but any assets like 401K, savings, other type of stocks, bonds and such also help, even the few paystubs, the more the merrier.

    Colorado2016, do you have any update ? What did your congressman write back to you? And what did USCIS respond to you?
    The processing time update at CSC today includes USC petition for a spouse but it says Dec 28, 2015 ?!? Its even slower than LPR's processing time.
    Looking for your reply.
