I'm curious to see everyones list of documents/proof they are taking to the interview, does anyone care to share? Mine is coming up in about 2 weeks, and I've started to gather things, but wanted to see everyones input here too. Esp for people who have gone throgh their interview already! What were some of the most important things you took?

I had my interview last Thursday at the Long Island; NY office. He took our certified copy of marriage certificate, I-94,  copies of birth certificates, copy of our 2018 taxes, copy of our lease, bank statements, health insurance, gym membership, he asked for 6 wedding photos, emails from my parents referring to my spouse and I, he also asked to see passports, original birth certificates... basically everything on the list. They asked me: how we met (they asked this twice), and if I met my spouses parents. They asked my spouse: where I was born, what my parents names were, had she visited England. He approved us on the spot, and our status changed to ‘card was mailed’ yesterday.

The phone line is for an appointment with the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit...tourist visas, student visas, etc. It's for temporary stays.

K1s need to book online and interview with the Immigrant Visa Unit because you have intent to stay. There are different requirements.

Maybe that’s the case now... but when I booked mine in August 2018, for K1, I did it on the phone with no problems.

  3. I had my medical in the UK but needed to still get my flu jab and tetanus shot. Once I got to the US and married, I got my health insurance, and those jabs are considered preventative so they were free (I got these done with a random Dr that my health insurance, Oscar, covered). Once I had copies of these, I found the nearest USCIS doctor and paid him I think $80 to fill in the form. He didn’t need to do a complete medical, just complete the page on vaccinations (google AOS medical vaccination form and it will come up). When filing for AOS I included the medical from London, as well as my new vaccination form.

($80 is with a dr near NYC... other prices may vary in other areas).

  4. I had my medical August 22nd and interview August 23rd and received my passport September 11th. The embassy received my medical results on August 30th and then it took 8 working days to get to me. This was using the courier home delivery service. Beware, they have loads of bad reviews about not delivering. Mine was scheduled to deliver by 6pm and I received it at 8.30pm. I Facebook and twittered the courier service company to chase up my delivery (they don’t have any other effective way to reach them) before their closing hours so they were about to speak to my delivery driver and confirm he would still deliver that day.

  5. I arranged my interview for aug 22nd and then I called medical the closest date was September 1st. I asked to be put on their cancellation list so if anyone else cancels, they give you a call and see if you want that spot. They phoned me a few days later and offered me a medical appointment on 23rd August, a day after the interview.

The embassy were fine with the medical being after after the interview. It took 7 days for my medical to be sent to the embassy, and then I received my visa 11 days later.

  6. I had my interview on 23rd August, and my medical on 24th August. My medical results reached the embassy and my visa was approved on 31st August. (I did courier home delivery) On September 10th I received a message saying it would be delivered the following day (11th). The courier service website says delivery hours are 8am-6pm... waited in till 5.30 then tried calling... but they don’t really have a calling service so I facebook and tweeted them. Whilst there, saw loads of other people had their deliveries cancelled and rescheduled for another day or were complaining they also hadn’t received their stuff. They replied to me on fb and twitter saying my stuff would be delivered soon.... and I eventually got it at 8pm.

  7. I had my interview on August 22nd, and then my medical on August 23rd (there were no available dates to have my medical before interview) and I received my passport back (courier house delivery) on September 11th.

(The embassy received my medical on September 30th... so it took 11 days from my visa being approved and issued, to being delivered)

  8. I met my fiancé 5 years ago and I decided in 2015 I wanted to go over there to be with them, without getting married.... I went through an agency called Au Pair in America (there are many other companies that do this) and I worked as an Au Pair for 2 years. You can never guarantee that you will find a placement near your fiancé, but as mine was near NYC it took me about a week to find a family that was within about 15 miles from my fiancé. The pay isn’t great, and you won’t be able to live with your fiancé, but it worked well for me. You go over there on a J1 visa, and from the start of application to getting to the US it took me about 3 months. Once you are over there on a J1, if you were to decide to get married, you can, and then just file for adjustment of status. That was an option for us, but I’d already been there for 2 years and due to family ill-health, I decided to come back to England and then we file for a k1. If family health hadn’t been a concern, I would have totally just adjusted status.

  9. Hi,

I had my interview on August 22nd at the London consulate. Unfortunately, there weren’t any medical appointments until the day after, 23rd August. All went fine and they sent the results to the embassy on 30th August. I am just wondering what other people’s experiences were with getting their visas back after interview?

    Thanks in advance!
