my husband picked up his visa this morning - monday morning.

We have been waiting 20 months since DS 5535 was submitted and no word from the Consulate yet.  They refuse to answer my inquiries anymore. They have begun sending curt responses to our Senator so she has stopped offering to follow up on our behalf. 

15 Months and nothing yet!

Posting an update here - my work visa (H1B) was in administrative processing after DS-5535 for 4 months. I just got the visa on Friday. Hope this gives everyone hope - the wait was painful and very hard but it worth getting the visa. Stay strong!! 

our priority date is july 5, 2017. my husband's interview was finally march 5, 2019 in casablanca. he was placed in administrative processing and told he would receive an email. they kept his passport. later that day, he received the ds5535 via email and he responded to it the same day. we received an updated date on CEAC 8 times and the 9th one was today, reading "issued."

We did the form in July and after 10 months in AP we were issued today. So hang in there I of all people know how hard this is

Not sure if anyone checks in here anymore from our old group but we are finally getting married in May! What a long and winding road it’s been to get here! Next step...more paperwork of course! Hope everyone is doing well! 

I emailed ds5535 yestrday and got an automated reply from Isb embassy. i also emailed them my resume as they also asked for it. as per the experiences shared by the ppl here its really scary. my wife will have our baby soon. i am that unfortunate guy who will not be present with my wife when my baby  will come in this world. my wife is depressed and cries when we talk. i am also depressed too. unfortunately we cant do anything except wait. 

Yea i agree but it is a loophole to discriminate against a specific group of people based on religion, ethnicity, or nationality

DS-5535 was created after direct orders from the President Of United States.......
In a May 4, 2017 Federal Register notice [82 FR 20956], the Department of State (DOS) proposed creating a new form to standardize the collection of additional information from immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applicants "who have been determined to warrant additional scrutiny in connection with terrorism or other national security-related visa ineligibilities." The form was designated as Form DS-5535, Supplemental Questions for Visa Applicants. In the Federal Register notice, DOS:
Stated that collecting this information "implements the directive of the President, in the Memorandum for the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security of March 6, 2017, to implement additional protocols and procedures focused on 'ensur[ing] the proper collection of all information necessary to rigorously evaluate all grounds of inadmissibility or deportability, or grounds for the denial of other immigration benefits.'"

@Boiler many of the simple cases was given Ds5535 but we have to respect your thoughts as you are member of Visa journey since 2004😯

I think that vast majority of our cases here are pretty simple - the common "complication" in the past couple of years seems to be the country our spouse/fiancé was born in.

I think it has nothing to with our names and counties our relatives have visited or lived in.  All of this is happening because of current US administration (Trump). He promised to curb immigration and do extreme vetting of everyone coming to US. We only hear in the media about illegal immigration but the fact is that they have made legal immigration process much more harder than ever before.  Their goal is to reduce the number of immigrants coming to US legally and they are slowing down the process to do exactly that. No background and AP should take this long. This Administrative Process is just to slow down legal immigration and discourage people from applying. Please reach out to your Congressman and other local politicians. Get your voice heard.

Yes they are handing over ds5535 alot now a days, if your name is a common name ex mohammad or  If you had travelled to gulf nations. As per embassy my all documents are ok for iR1 visa they said case is in Washington ds for background check thats it. I hope everyone here gets their visa asap inshallah. 

Don't hire a lawyer. Absolutely NO ONE can reach for your case once it gets sent to Washington. He might get a reply or two but that won't speed things up. Save your money and message them yourself. You have the right to curse the f*uck out of them after 14 months to get their asses moving and finish processing your case.

It just means that a counselor officer will respond to your email. Next time use the immigrant visa inquiry email which goes directly to them.
