    No worries!

You put the US embassy or consulate where you will interview. All visa applications with the DS-160 are for visas to the US.

It is confusing but you have not "officially" applied for the visa yet.  So far you went through a Homeland Security check.  After they approve you, that is when you actually apply for the visa (and pay for it).  The DS-160 is part of that application process.  There are financial forms and other payments due once you get the go ahead from NVC and the Embassy.  Things can move quickly now.

    Huh...?

Are you sure the K-1 was approved? I think you're referring to the I-129F petition. If so, then it will be sent to NVC then to the embassy. You haven't done anything with the K-1 visa side of things yet.
The DS-160 is the non-immigrant visa application. That is required (along with other materials + the $265 MRV fee, which should be listed in a pre-interview packet) before you actually interview at the consulate.

They never filled out their timeline but they joined the site on 6/6/2017.  I assume they have NOA2 and are wondering what the DS-160 is.

Thank you @Naes.  As always, you are the queen of the forums.  I'm excited for you to only have 85 more days of work.  I'm counting down as well but I can't put my resignation in yet.  Maybe I'll just run out screaming when the days comes.

Hi! I don't know if I am too late, but if you still need help, and if you want, I can send you our "Table of Contents". We got a NOA2, so I'm sure they were satisfied with the documents we provided. We did get an RFE, though, but it was unnecessary as they asked us to send passport photos we already sent them, meaning they lost our photos. If you need further help, we can chat so I can help you organize your documents. I can also send you samples of our cover letters and intent to marry.

You guys rock. Thankyou so much for your encouragement and tips and the time you took to write.
I'm going to have another good read through everything tonight after work.

Feeling more peaceful about it now.

    Thanks again.

Okay I don't mean this in a bad way at all so please don't take it that way.

But I think you should read the instructions in here on the petition and what is needed and what is not.
The I-129F is filed out by the USC as said above all you have to send is what we listed above.
If you want to fill it out together then no problems but you guys need to read the instructions that I linked to earlier along with the
forms and all. You want to get this right the first time so you don't have to deal with to much RFE which stands for request for more evidence or if you make a mistake on the form and so on it will be more wait time.

Why are you each filing out the form?

Breath, relax, shake your head and repeat. Now that you are somewhat calm .
The information on this forum is plenty, very helpful and can become overwhelming at times.

When I started my journey I found it most useful to thoroughly read the instructions that came from the USCIS, there forms and there website. And use them over the instructions I found here. Forms change, rules change and guidelines may not be updated as often here. In the end the instructions on the form are the ones you have to follow.
Also be aware that forums tend to draw more topics about problems than about things that went right. That is just the nature of things.

The other thing I can not emphasize enough is to look at the reviews for your embassy/consulate and to read through your local forum. Many things that are important for one embassy are not even considered in another.

Now, breath again. And remember that if I could have figured out how to do this, so can you.

When I submitted my I 129f....I found it helpful to remind myself that the questions are not "trick" questions...don't over think it....it is just asking what it asks...
As for the passport photos....you just have to write the name of the person lightly in pencil on the back of the photo...
    Happy journey

Everything that each of you do that has a date and signature has to be in ink as I understand it. Since I am my fiance's sponsor, she expressed mailed her parts to me from Australia.

As someone has posted, a fiancé visa for the USA can be completed in around 6 months if you are organized and send good, solid evidence with your I-129F and avoid RFEs. How often do you two see each other anyway? Most people on here see their partners only once or twice a year anyway - some even less than that - so what's the difference? If a six-month separation is going to put s strain on your relationship it's probably not as strong as you think it is. Military wives endure longer separations and they survive. The longest I didn't see my husband was 8 months. I wouldn't want to repeat that time but if anything it made us stronger as a couple.

    Hi Katie,

My partner and I looked into this and Emily is absolutely correct. It's a lot more expensive coming to Australia than moving to the USA. The main application form for Australia is 70 pages long (I'm not kidding).

i moved to the USA on K1 and it took 5 months. Very easy straightforward and affordable.

Given your desired August time-frame, you will need to do a CR-1 visa. He can file the I-130 petition to start the process once you are married and have the marriage certificate. ETA: 12-14 months
    http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

If you're willing to push back your wedding slightly, he can petition you for the K-1 visa now (assuming you have met in person at least once within the past 2 years). ETA: 6-8 months
    http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

The main advantage of the K-1 is that you are together faster. However, you won't be allowed to work or leave the country (and re-enter) until you are married, file for AOS + AP + EAD, and are approved for the EAD/AP. It's also more expensive.

The main advantage of the CR-1 is that you will get a green card after arrival and can start working (or traveling abroad) immediately. It's also cheaper.

You may do that and return home to process your cr1 visa in your home country.  Why not do a k1?
