    Philadelphia Interview Review

I just had my Green Card Interview for the Philadelphia Office.
Just a background- my I-485 was submitted Jan 23rd
No updates have ever been received via email, text or on either account (myaccount, or USCIS)
I received my letter for my Green Card Interview one month ago
I have not received my EAD- my case went straight to Interview!

The interview was on time, and lasted approx 20-30 minutes. (cannot remember exactly how long)
The officer was friendly but professional
My photo was taken, my fingerprint was taken.
Both my husband and I were to stand and take an oath of honesty
The officer proceeded to ask both of us questions from my I-485 to verify information
In fact most of our questions were straight from the 485
We were asked for proof of our relationship
    I submitted:

PHOTOS:    a few from our wedding ceremony (non-legal), some from our Court legal marriage ceremony, approx. 6-8 new photos of us on different visits and our honeymoon, and a few photos of us and our dogs together.  The officer took 4 photos- one of our wedding ceremony, one from the courthouse ceremony, and two of us and our dogs.  He liked the dog ones and I told him the reason I included them was to show that the dogs lived together in the same country!

JOINT ACCOUNT INFO- the officer wanted to see bank statements that were recent which we had two months worth

LIFE INSURANCE POLICY- to show that I was my husbands beneficiary

PENSION PLAN- to show that my husband was my beneficiary

    TAXES- we filed joint taxes

(since we are living with family and are in the process of buying a house, we did not have any other financial commitments to show like a mortgage, lease or bills etc. however he felt that what we showed was significant enough)

SKYPE LOGS- to show a continued relationship from the date of filing the I-129 until Immigration Date

PROOF FROM I-129- I brought photocopies of the proof we had submitted with our I-129 package as he did not have it in my file.  I have heard others bring their I-129 package with them, and I am glad I did.  This was the majority of the proof we had to prove our bonafide relationship as my husband and I have known each other for 15 years, we had a variety of proof such as photos, boarding passes, itineraries from emails, tickets, email correspondence summaries etc. The officer asked for my photocopies to include in my file.

The officer stated that the green card would be a conditional 2 year card, and we would have to continue to prove our relationship at the next interview which would include proof from today onwards, and that all the information I submitted today will remain in my file to refer to at the next interview.

He also asked how we met and what happened through the 15 years.  He was friendly and chatted with us even about his own wedding when we explained how we had a ceremony in Canada, but legally married in the U.S. etc.

he concluded the interview stating that the Green card usually takes 2-5 weeks to get in the mail and that we would be notified in approx. 2 years when the next interview would be for the 10 year Green card.

Since our appointment form asked us to bring several things that he didn't ask for, I asked to confirm that he had them in my file for example my Immunization form and certified Marriage certificate to which he said yes.

And that was pretty much it.

I am still shocked that we got a green card interview 4 months after submitting as when I check the USCIS website, the processing times still list 9.5-19 months!!

Good luck to everyone, I hope things move smoothly and fast.

    Hello guys, quick update:

Yesterday I got an email letting me know that my EAD is being produced. Yayyyy thanks God, I was jumping up and down like a kid. When I checked online, only the egov case status website updated, nothing on the DHS website. PD Jan8th, it seems they are going thru January at a decent pace seeing updates for other Jan filers.

Then today afternoon around the same time I got another email and text messages that there was an update on my AOS, I checked and my interview has been scheduled, Alleluya! Now time to get ready for it, while waiting for the letter.  Same here, no update on the DHS but the egov case status did update.

To other January filers, yours is coming soon, from the way they work, in the next few weeks I think.

Same for us. just hang in there guys! For sure our time will come.
Anyway, if you’re feeling bored you might want to try some online courses and do some volunteering.
I did some online courses on Udemy and also some volunteering in a public library near our place.

Just got back from our interview in Chicago.  Overall I think it went well but wasn't told if we were approved or not at the end.  Our interview was scheduled for 11:45am but we weren't taken back to the office until a little after 1:00pm.  After the oath, it started off a little odd, the IO asked if we had a pending/had brought an I-130, as there was a note on file about one, but I told her no, there wasn't one and asked if we needed to fill one out.  She looked quickly and said that since we were adjusting from a K-1 it wasn't necessary and she wasn't sure why there was that note.  After that she asked if we had any additional documents we wanted to present her that weren't included in the original submission.  I proceed to give her a copy of our new lease, joint bills, joint bank statements, insurance and beneficiary documents, and a few other documents that I had.  I then asked her if she had the pictures from our original I-129f in her files, which she did not and didn't seem to have anything from the I-129f which I thought was odd since I've read others here stating they saw their IO with it, so I presented her with the photos I included for that submission along with photos from then up until about 2 weeks ago.  She then proceed to work through the I-485 with my partner, telling me that I could not answer any of the questions, and only he should respond.  Along the way going through those a question came up that I needed to respond to on a issue he brought up and I was hesitant to speak but finally spoke up and the IO seemed fine with the answer.  She then started with the Yes and No questions, did the first 5-7 right from the sheet, and then jumped around through the rest of the questions.  I was very happy that she didn't ask all of them and at that point she asked him to sign the I-485.  She then turned to the I-864 and said that it was reviewed and stamped as I made enough to support my partner.  She asked about my job, what I do, and if my salary has changed.  After I explained where I worked we spent a couple of minutes talking about my job, what I do, what the company does, etc.  She then looked at the medical documents, we had to submit an I-693 as my partner didn't have all of his shots before coming to the USA, and said that all looked good.  She then asked about when my partner first arrived, if he has been outside of the US since arrival, and if he's been working.  She then said she just had a few more questions that either of us could answer.  She asked how we met and how the proposal happened, what we did on my visits to see him, when my trips to see him were, and a few other questions that I can't remember right now.

The last set of questions she asked I was a little surprised to hear but I'm glad she asked them so we could further prove our relationship.  She said "I see that there is an age difference between the two of you, how does that work out?"  We do have a bit of an age gap, 15 years, and my partner answered the question really well.  I then popped in with my response and I think she was satisfied with how we answered and smiled.  She then asked "So, your family is okay with this relationship?" and my partner explained that they were and that I had met his mom and then I explained that my family was too and that we had spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them, as shown in the pictures, and they were happy for us.  She wrapped up by asking if we had any questions, so I took this chance to ask about the next steps in the process if we are approved and she explained the conditional green card, the 10 year green card, and that he would have the option to apply for citizenship in 3 years.  With her response I felt like we were more on the approval side of things.  I then asked about if we needed to register him for selective service or if that would be taken care of with the I-485, since I thought there was something in the instructions that mentioned that, and she said she wasn't sure, so I said that to be safe it would probably be best if we registered him ourselves and she said yes but that she can't give legal advice but can only offer recommendations.  Finally I asked about the pending EAD and said assuming everything goes okay with today, will that just be cancelled.  She told me yes, it would just be withdrawn and he would use his green card for work authorization.  I then followed-up asking about getting a new social security card that doesn't have the mention about DHS work authorization and if we should get a new one and she said yes, when his green card arrives we should go to the social security office to get a new card.  This response also helped me to feel a little more confident that we would be approved but she never stated anything or gave us any additional paperwork.  We then thanked her for her time and she walked us out.  We were out, back to the lobby, around 1:25, so a total of about 20-25 minutes in the interview.

Like I said, overall I think it went really well and our IO was really friendly.  She felt comfortable enough with us that she was smiling at times and laughing along with us during certain points.  She really helped the atmosphere to feel relaxed and brought down my nerves a bit, I was really happy that we ended up with her.  I think she saw from our interactions and talking about each other that we are in a bonafide relationship and I really hope that I'm reading her behavior, smiles, and comfort with us in the right way leaning towards approval.  We had a long drive back home and haven't received any text notifications of updates to the case yet.  We did log into the DHS site and the USCIS site and neither show any updates on our case as of yet.  Now we just have to wait and see what happens.

We arrived outside the LA USCIS office 45 mins early and waited about 15 mins to get in. The line moved fairly fast and it's only to get through security. We went up to 8th floor and handed in our interview letter to a reception window then sat in the waiting area. We waited for around 30-40 mins till the IO called my name. The IO lead us to the office area where there are at least 15 individual offices with full glass front, so you can see each couple or individual with their IOs.

The IO was very friendly, apologized for the wait and asked for our IDs, passports and my social security card which I got a few years ago. Asked us to sign a waiver for not having a lawyer present. Then the officer started with questions on the application package, full name, DOB, current and old address, yes and no questions. Then moved on to my partner with the same questions.

After the questions from the forms, the officer asked us how, when, where we met; when did it go romantic; when we moved in together; when we decided to get married; did we meet each other's parents; who went to the wedding; am I working and when I started to work. All the questions were asked in a casual way. The office was chatting with us while asking us these questions. I feel like it was more like a "get to know you" instead of "questioning you" kind of situation.

Then, the officer asked for joint documents, we gave the officer our joint bank statements, joint auto insurance, and joint tax return as well as some other bills with our separate names to prove we live together. I also gave the officer the updated medical form and my partner's birth certificate both original and copies. The office did not ask for any other documents.

After that, the officer asked us to pick a few photos from the photo album to keep in the file. The officer then left to make a few copies of our original documents and came back with a letter and stamped on it handed to me and welcomed me to the US. The officer explained how the two-year green card works and told me the card will arrive in about two weeks.

Then we said goodbye but kept chatting for another 2-3 mins.

My advice is to get all the paperwork very organized in a labeled folder for quick and clear access, be yourself, make friend (at least try) with the IO and Relax.

Good luck again! I believe all of you waiting will get good news very soon!

We went in for the AOS interview yesterday. We were scheduled for 9:45, but we got there a bit early. We went in at about 9:30, went through the security check and were told to check in. The immigration officer was already waiting for us at the window, and he told me that I would go in with him and later he'll bring my husband in too. We went into his office, I was sworn in, and then he checked my identity (passport, drivers license, fingerprints, photo). Before we started, he let me know that he won't be able to give me approval on the spot because the original K1 application was missing from the file and he had put in a request to get it from another office. He then went over my application asking for my name, date of birth and confirming a lot of information I had put in initially. Most of the questions had yes or no answers. He then asked about how my husband and I had met. That was it. No need for any of the documents I prepared, they did not even talk to my husband. We were in and out in half an hour. We're now waiting for my file to be complete so that they can approve it. The tracker changed this morning to "Interview Was Completed And My Case Must Be Reviewed". Good luck everyone, hopefully, more approvals will come soon.
