exodus got a reaction from Boiler in War a valid reason for expedition?
Why are they reviewing it now if there still is a six year wait?

When asked if your stepson's PD was current, you said it was current.   Apparently, this is a F2b case where the PD is not current.  When it comes to the immigration categories, current refers to the Priority Date.

This is how it works.  USCIS approves the I-130 and sends it to wait at the NVC for a current PD.  USCIS approval can happen in a few months to a few years.  Then it waits at the NVC for months or years until the PD is current.

There is absolutely no way to expedite this case.  The law does not allow anyone to get a visa before their PD becomes current.  No exceptions.  Not even for war.

Has anyone tried to send emails to any of the addresses provided in those communications?

I have... and the only thing I get back are automated replies.

Red light didnt ruin your life.  Choices did.

Catch your snap.  You need to sit down with an immigration attorney, a good one, and listen to him or her read from the book.  You got a long road coming up and you got to pony up for both of you.  Big chance that road is a dead end.

Marrying before you’re caught puts you on a path to a waiver.  Marrying just after?  Man that looks bad.  That looks like marrying for immigration benefits.  This is a deeper hole than most of us can help you out of.  I hope y’all work out.

Welp the first year we were just trying to figure things out. And then COVID came around and we just hunkered down and worked on our futures together. It's pretty interesting how a year just sneaks up on you. People keep telling me about consequences and man I know that ok I am living it right now and yeah I get it how just one red light will ruin your life.

It wasn’t the light though.   Had you done things the right way, she wouldn’t be in this mess.   Have you looked into moving to Canada until you can get the process of petition/interview/waiver sorted?

Unfortunate choices were made.   You might have to petition her for a visa and wait your turn, just like the rest of us.

Funny how the party line on VJ is that overstay is without consequences.   Until it isn’t.
You ‘feel’ like that, and yet US immigration law clearly says otherwise.

I know what you mean. But I'm a man of action, I can't just sit down and accept it. There is no way I could ever just throw up my hands and say welp, on to the next woman. And I know she feels that way too. I know if she would ever be in my situation, she would try everything possible. I know that some people can just say ok we'll never be together so nice knowing you but that's not us. There has to be some way to keep her here because I know enough that if they send her back to Canada they will never let her back in. Like imagine if your fiancee was just sent back to Russia and you could never be together again. You would do anything to stop that. I feel like if we could just get married even on a Zoom call, that would give us an edge.

I was going to suggest asking for a waiver. Best of luck. People kill me when they ask others why they desperately want to be USC? Are you guys watching the news lately? Best of luck to your mom.

We received the official document indicating his interview date is March 11 and not April 7th as it said in the email!

Question: I am looking at the documents required for him to bring for his interview and it says for naturalization as the spouse of a US citizen he will need my birth certificate or naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.
We had submitted a copy of my passport (which is allowed) in our application to prove my citizenship. I do not have my birth certificate...just a photocopy of it because the original went to USCIS back in 2013 for the CR1 and it’s been misplaced somehow. Do you think they will accept my passport? Or do I need to rush order a certified copy of my birth certificate?

exodus reacted to Lemon23 in Is a drivers license required at the N400 interview?
This is the instruction on the N-400 form:

If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must submit photocopies (front and back) of your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. You will also need to bring your Permanent Resident Card and a state-issued identification such as a driver’s license to your interview with USCIS. If you have lost your Permanent Resident Card, attach a copy of any other entry document or a photocopy of a receipt showing that you have filed the Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.

I would explain this one more time, the form of identification they are asking you is just to enter the building a green card or passport is fine, you already have the letter so do as the letter says, now if you need to provide residency in your jurisdiction a drivers license could be helpful but is not the only thing that you can show to prove this, you can show leases, mortgages, etc.

You are not required to have a DL or state ID. I didn't have either at the time of my N400 interview.

    Hi everyone!

I had my interview today! It was only me (no spouses allowed inside). I arrived 15 minutes early and after going through security, I checked in with an officer who entered my information to a computer, put a stamp on my interview NOA and then sent me to the second floor (Denver office). I sat for three minutes and an officer came to look for me.

The interview was very straightforward, first he asked for documents to check that my marriage was still going (I provided bank statements, home insurance and mortgage).

Then, he did the 6/10 test, the English test on a tablet (one question for reading and one for writing). Then, he went through the application questions and requested clarification on two minor things. After that, he said he would recommend me for Naturalization and asked if I wanted to become a citizen today, so I said yes.

He gave the Oath of Allegiance, I signed a couple of forms and he asked me to go out to the waiting room so he could go and get my certificate. I waited for a minute and he came out with my certificate, some paperwork (to explain how to apply for a passport, change social security, etc) and a cute US flag.

He congratulated me and I was gone in 30 minutes.

    I'm now a US Citizen!

Good luck to all of you who are still in the process. May 2021 be the year for you to also become US Citizens.

    All the best.

Our interview was scheduled today. I expect a dual interview since they are reusing biometrics from our I-751 application. We filed the I-751 March 2019 and the N-400 on April 7. Our local USCIS office is Milwaukee.

Yip. It was with the interviewer, 1 minute after he approved my application.
He said because of COVID, they can do Oath ceremonies 1 on 1 instead of the big group process.
