Scandi got a reaction from Cheezees in Question regarding hiring legal advice to support us during the K-1 Fiance Visa Process
If you don't have a complicated case do not pay someone else to do it for you. It's super easy and it's much better if you keep an eye on the process yourself instead of putting your trust in a lawyer who might not even know the process very well at all. Here on VJ we see people getting the wrong info from their lawyers and receiveing RFEs very often, surprisingly often, actually. It's definitely not worth the money.

Hiring a lawyer for something like this feels very American to me, you guys have lawyers for everything apprently. In Sweden we only use lawyers if we actually NEED one - this isn't one of those cases (if your case is simple).

Besides, you do most of the work yourself anyway. You have to gather all that is needed, the lawyer only does the very small things (like filling out forms that even a child could fill out and so on). You have VJ to answer all your questions, which has proven to be a much safer place to get correct answers than asking a lawyer.

I'm surprised you're surprised. You must've known you were going through one of the toughest embassies.. and you only met ONCE for 1,5 week?

Like someone else said, meeting once will be enough to file the i-129f petition, but it most likely won't be enough to get a K-1 visa at an embassy like that one. People have to realize that the i-129f and the K-1 are two very different things.

USCIS case tracker doesn't say anything else than "case approved" after approval. That status doesn't change from now on, it won't tell you when your approved petition is sent to NVC.

And you know of every single RFE case in the history of time? If not, how can you be sure that has never happened?
USCIS states that they have 90 days once they receive the response to an RFE. Most cases probably don't take that long, but that's how many days they have to make a decision, whether you like it or not.

We met online and when it was finally time to see each other irl for the first time he told me the only gentlemanlike way to do it was for him to come see me in my country first. He didn't like the thought of me travelling to a -for me completely foreign- country all by myself to come see this guy I had never met irl before. Super cute.

Scandi got a reaction from closedclosed in Case Approved, Sent to NVC, then Sent Back to USCIS! Help!
It has happened before that USCIS lose things, they might've lost the first page of your i-129f form, or perhaps one of the G-325a forms.

I don't know what will happen now, but perhaps USCIS will send you an RFE or something like that, asking for the page that is missing (if that's what's wrong).

This is one of those situations that'll end with the man not knowing what to do anymore and he'll hit her out of pure frustration and regret it the second after. BUT, it happened, meaning she'll most likely report him and he'll get into big trouble.

Leave her, get rid of her, throw her ### out before it gets to that point. I know you'll say "I'd never hit a woman", good for you. But you probably also said "I'll never end up in a relationship that bad" before you brought her here. Point is; happens, and you should try your very best to avoid happening. Get rid of her, now.

The justice system will have zero understanding for a man who has been both physically and emotionally abused for a long time and who finally snaps out of sheer frustration. Don't let it get to that point, throw her out.

Scandi got a reaction from MordecaiRigby in Question for the Europeans: why choose the US over Europe?
I'd much rather stay in Sweden because of the health care system and other benefits you get from paying high taxes. It just makes me feel safer, and we could even afford to have children in Sweden. In the US.. not so much..

But I don't have a fulltime, stable job in Sweden. I have an old, small apartment and a crappy car.

He on the other hand has a house, his own company, two dogs and a family situation that makes it harder for him to move than it is for me. He'd also have a hard time to find a job in Sweden since he doesn't speak the language, another reason for me to move instead of him.

So basically, I'll sacrifice my security here to move to the US to be with him because I'm still the one who has less to lose by moving. Oh the things you do for love..

I agree, do more research. But it's also good that you're asking, many, many people on here have gone through the same thing.

Like KayDeeCee said, the DS-160 online form is for the K-1 visa, not the i-129f petition. I filled out the DS-160 as soon as we got the NOA2 for the petition, and then I only submitted it once my CEAC status said "ready" as I knew the embassy had received our case then.

But everything after the NVC stage is very country specific, so you should read up on how it works at the embassy in Australia.

That was my situation to until I realized the healthcare seems to be pretty decent once you find a good insurance and in a lot of ways it's actually better than in Sweden. In Sweden you get healthcare for "free" but the quality sucks.
The whole affording kids thing does not look promising.... We need to get far away from DC if we are ever going to afford having kids and still have the lifestyle we want.
So yeah, we do a lot of sacrificing to be with our loved ones
