This way you can lose your Naturalization Certificate without having a passport in hand. The processing time for a replacement is currently 11 months. Worst advice ever.

She can just write to the address given on her receipt and notify them she will not be proceeding

First of all, it is a violation of the terms of service here on VJ to tell others not to post.  We are all free to comment, as you are free to ignore comments. Secondly, I answered your questions. .. ..she will, possibly, abandon her AOS.  Her attorney should know this.  She can just leave. But as @Boiler has said, she can contact USCIS .

I would have driven to the next SSA office and shown them https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0110210505

I-90 is not needed. N-400 receipt extends her gc by 24 months. She can travel with that.

i-90 is a waste of money in her situation

randomstairs reacted to Loren Y in Can I fly to the US on approved K1 visa with round trip ticket or should I buy one way?
did that for my wife when she came on her k1 because round trip was cheaper like you said. Just cancel the return, or get a refundable one as mentioned. Airlines won't care, unless you do it multiple times, and even then they just send you a you've been bad email. I've got a bunch of them in my in box. I do whats called " Hidden city ticketing" all the time to save cash, and even though it pisses off the airlines, not much they can do. For now at least. Just booked another one last week. booked to Thailand, but getting off in Taipei for a week, then jumping a cheaper airline onto Thailand.

There are not going to be happy with the misuse of the Emergency category, I serious doubt it will make any other difference.

You might want to call or schedule a visit to a DMV office.  You can combine the question about your DL with asking if you're listed as registered/cleared to vote, now that you're naturalized.

No. There is no reason to do that.
If they say they need to hold it, walk away and go to another SSA office.
Whoever “they” are, this was not my experience in 2018, and not my wife’s experience in 2023.

Yes, do bring the tax transcripts! They probably won't ask for them but it's possible.

That's like saying "cake eaters are not a protected group" if a pastry store refuses to sell a cake based on, e.g, customer's race (a protected group). I get it that businesses can decide for themselves which types of IDs are acceptable (so de facto they can discriminate). But if there was a discrimination case here, it would be based on national origin, which, in turn, would be a violation of Title II (public accommodations) of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The magic words in such situations are, "I would like to speak with your supervisor, please."

I went to get my SSN about two weeks after I arrived. The lady I sat with was really unfriendly and said she couldn't do anything for me because I didn't have a green card, despite my insistence that the stamped visa acted as one for a year. She also mentioned that my middle name was in the incorrect field in the SAVE (is that what it's called? It's been so long) system which I recall was a minor issue back then. I recall calling CBP about it and they were like 🤷‍♀️, lol.

She handed me a piece of paper and sent me on my way telling me I wasn't eligible for an SSN. The paper said congratulations we'll send your SSN ASAP. Got it a week later and almost nine years later I still have no idea what any of that was about. Not sure if she couldn't read or if she figured it out at the end and was too embarrassed to say as much... I thought maybe a mistake happened somewhere but I've been recklessly using my SSN to date with no prison time thus far. Well, I had someone aggressively tell me that LPRs don't get SSNs a few years back but I still somehow have it to this day!

Unfortunately you won't be eligible until your Oath ceremony is behind you. It seems trivial but I'd be extra careful with even scheduling an appointment for a US passport as a non-citizen. (Applying for one as a non-citizen would be fatal. Scheduling an appointment probably doesn't require you to state your citizenship status, but still - I wouldn't do it personally.)

    I did. Still not denaturalized.

American Samoans are not U.S. citizens and they apply for U.S. passports.

You should naturalize if the same-day Oath is scheduled. Your third proposed option is optimal given the situation, IMO.

I don't think the N-400 can be approved without the interview. There must be an error somewhere. Talk to the Immigration Officer (not just the the call center representative). This is serious enough for them to connect you with the IO.

randomstairs reacted to Chancy in Which line when entering US as family, US citizen with Foreign Spouse?
Not fraud.  The CBP officer was right that your wife should have just kept her GC.  An LPR remains an LPR until an immigration judge takes away their LPR status or the LPR voluntarily surrenders it by filing I-407.

You don't really need the mailed notice. Just print out the PDF. There's a barcode on it. They'll scan it when you arrive. No worries.

Thank you for the comprehensive, albeit frustrating, update.  Those of us who had no such snafus with USCIS/USPS can nevertheless vividly picture ourselves in this situation.  Fingers crossed for you, and sincere sympathy.  Keep the faith.
