    Naturalisation?

This sounds more like a vasectomy

Anyway theoretically they don't look at the marriage but in practice they can and sometimes do, so I would prepare on that basis. Plenty of people on here have gone through the process in this situation, also do not understand the Birth Certificate issue.

    🤣 Ops auto correct.

Thanks for clarification. I don't think I need it then. But I'm taking all the documents I have.

  2. I got divorced last year and I'm applying for my US citizenship. On the paper it asks for a spouses birth certificate. I can ask but I'm not sure if he'll let me borrow that. I have all the other required paperwork and divorce decree. I've been in the US for almost 8 years now and my daughter is a US citizen from birth. Has anyone else filed after divorce and did they require the birth certificate of your ex spouse?

    Thanks.

I'll also point out a standard reminder - don't get so caught up in interview prep that you forget planning for getting a US passport if you have international travel coming up later in the spring/summer. Keep in mind that you will hand in your green card when you take the oath and you have to leave/reenter with a US passport from there on.

Thank you. Not planning any international travel right now but I will take that into consideration. It would be awesome if I can get approved same day but if not hopefully quickly after.

  4. I'm currently finishing up university and will graduate in the summer. My husband and I have been together almost 7 years. I have plenty of time left on my greencard but am trying to think when would be the best time to apply so I can study for the test. How long does it take approximately?

    Thanks.

I also want to add that, as much as you can help them and want to help them with immigration, you're their teacher. Do not mix stuff.

Where are they from? Usually in bigger cities there are centers from their community that might offer some help.

Yes this is why I came here to ask for a resource. I think as a teacher I can point them to a resource but it's going to be as far as I can go. My instinct is to help them, but I could get into a legal grey area so if I can point them in the direction of where to get information it would make me feel like I've helped as they can get the advice they need.

  6. I teach ESL at various school settings. Some of my students are asking me how I applied for my green card, but it's different for them as they have different circumstances. The particular situation that I am dealing with right now is a student asked me how he adjusts his legal status. I know there is paperwork but I feel like it's probably something a lawyer needs to help with. I do not know his legal status if he is undocumented, or refugee but he will turn 18 soon and has a younger sibling who I am also teaching. I have realized that I can't help them with the paperwork as it's too complex for me to deal with. Can someone please point me in the direction of a resource I can direct these type of students too? Most of them can only speak limited English as they are learning English at school with me. This is not the first student I have taught who has fled from violence. Some of them are registered and some of them are undocumented, some of them I don't know. They are good kids and really deserve a better life than this.

    Thank you.

  7. I'm in the last year of my Batchelors degree now and my husband and I have been talking about traveling for work. It would be hard for me to come back to the US if I don't apply for citizenship as well as applying for visas to work abroad.  I have a few questions about the process.

How hard is the citizenship exam? I studied US history at university  but I'm not sure if that's enough to pass. What other steps are involved and how expensive is it? I still have a while left on my greencard before it needs to be renewed but I've been here 6 years so I think it's time to start thinking about applying.

    Thank you.

  8. Please don't judge me for asking this question.  My husband and both our children are US citizens. But I'm a legal permanent resident with a 10 year green card. I work at the hospital and my husband has just lost his job. I'm meant to be starting nursing school in August depending on how everything goes. I work on the desk as well as assist nurses with patient care. I can pick up work but I don't think it will near the costs of how much my husband was earning.  My husband is thinking about applying for SNAP because we are struggling to afford food with out his wages. We are probably going to struggle even with assistance and overtime. He was going to apply for me too but I told him he should probably only apply for him and the kids as I'm sure I don't qualify for government assistance like food stamps. I've never once thought we would be in this position but strange times... so grateful I work in healthcare so I can provide for my family.

My case also went to MSC, and received the biometrics appt about a week after NOA....but I also think it depends on your location and volume of applicants going for biometrics at the Application Support Center (ASC)....remember, there are other folks going for biometrics for citizenship, etc

You would have to notify USCIS of your change of address and it's likely you may receive biometrics appointment before June.

    Well that works i guess.
