  1. Is it possible to be a PR in both Canada and US?

I am a Canadian citizen that was living in Quebec and moved under the K1 visa in August 2017. I was only able to go back to Canada in June 2018 when I got my GC. I had someone in Canada do my Canadian taxes, told them my new married name, the date I left and for some reason they didn't follow my instructions...at all. So I found out this month that Quebec and Canada still considers me a single permanent resident smh. I have also been traveling back and forth every month since June to Quebec to do self employed work so I know I will have to do my Canadian taxes again for 2018.

Should I renounce my Canadian permanent residency?

    TIA

If you want to be absolutely sure about your status you can get the I-551 stamp in your passport. You can also call USCIS and ask about your A#. But I really don't see any reason for concern given that you were let into the country with this GC (they must have run it through their system). So the problem is either on the DHS' end, updating some external systems late, or on the DMV's end.

You have the right to obtain a NYS ID card (if you meet all requirements) and if this issue takes too long you may have a legal ground to file a complaint for status discrimination (don't know NY laws though).

Yea I know my status for my green card is fine. I was just confused as to why the DMV couldn't confirm my green card. I'm thinking about doing the whole Infopass thing to see if USCIS has an explanation on their end. I can't get a Square account and I think it's because I don't have a state ID

Sounds like they couldn't confirm your identity for some reason. If you entered the country with this GC you shouldn't worry about it.

NY has a strange new system that I don't really know anything about (I remember the old one at DMV) so I can't help you with this one. But at least you can be assured your GC is perfectly fine :)

Good to know I don’t have to worry about my green card! The new system explanation makes sense. I just don’t want to have to go back to the DMV every 2 weeks for no reason 😕

I've would think they probably need more than just the green card to enter you in the database as new to sum up the missing info?

Might have to bring the other stuff, passport, birth certificate, etc.?

Did they not tell you anything else to do? Maybe that person didn't know what to do about the situation?

I brought everything else. Lease, bank statement, my Canadian passport, marriage certificate and etc. They said they couldn’t do anything because my green card couldn’t be verified.

They said to “wait and come back in 2 weeks I guess?” and they had no idea what’s going on.

  5. If you still want to meet new friends outside of work i highly recommend the app Bumble. They have a section for finding friends! I know it's weird to have a dating app on your phone while being married lol but it's amazing! I'm also introverted and shy and i was able to meet 5 new friends that have the same interests as me and I still  hang out with them from time to time months later.
