eieio reacted to Sonea in March for our lives: hundreds of thousands demand end to gun violence
Delaney Tarr, one of the student speakers said on Saturday: "We will take the big and we will take the small, but we will keep fighting. When they give us that inch, that bump stock ban, we will take a mile. We're not here for bread crumbs. We are here for real change."

As an aside, I've decided to become an NRA member after this weekend. I've always been on the fence about it, but I realize until I do, I don't have a real voice in the matter.

Dow jumps 650 points as trade tensions ease
The Dow Jones industrial average traded 650 points higher, with Microsoft as the best-performing stock in the index. The move higher comes after the major averages posted their worst week since January 2016 amid fears of a trade war between China and the U.S. Earlier, the Financial Times reported China has offered to buy more semiconductors from the U.S. to help cut its trade surplus with the U.S.

I respectfully disagree.  It comes from the unhealthy hatred the Dems and the MDL media preaches against anyone that doesn’t agree with their political positions.

From what I can tell an armed person at the school,  stopped further killings. Really have not digested  the whole thing.

It's never going to be completely fair. If I'm a billionaire and I lose my drivers license I just hire a guy to drive me everywhere. Or yeah, maybe the judge is my neighbor and I just get a warning. Life has always been that way.

I think the loss of a drivers license is more of a deterrent in the long run than higher fines though. As much as people are arguing about it in this thread, I don't think rich people actually care if a fine is $100 or $1000, much like I don't care if my coffee costs $2 or $3.

Exactly. Here it’s 3 tickets and loss of license for x period. I’m not buying that the rich do whatever they want because they can afford the fine and the poor can’t. The connected can get a ticket fixed rather easily.

Ultimately if the goal is to stop speeding the flip side is also true - you shouldn't have people doing 100 in a 60 zone every day just because the fine is of no consequence.  There has to be a consequence. Unfortunately I don't think any amount of monetary fine would balance that out though. You can make the fine 50x higher and it wouldn't deter those who can afford it.

We already have drivers license points/demerits so that is one balance. The playing field is relatively level that way. Most people can only get a few tickets in a year before they are in court looking at their driving privileges revoked. Beyond that, the balance would be stiffer penalties for serial offenders. Some states do that already. Keep speeding, lose your license for a longer period.

Here if you have 3 speeding tickets in a year you’ll have your license suspended. I doubt there is any state that allows unlimited moving violations as long as you pay the fine. So the rich aren’t getting a free pass. They will have their license suspended just like everyone else.

Sure it is. Everyone ticketed would have  to prove their  income. Try to do that with the tens of thousands of violations that occur everyday. The court system couldn’t handle it.
    Nonsense.

I guess I’m just strange and believe that I am responsible for my own actions. If I can’t afford to pay a speeding ticket, I better not speed. Ditto for a parking ticket. I’m 100% in control.

What would you suggest, a hearing  for every traffic violation where the offender has to submit tax returns, pay stubs etc to prove income and then have a decision made on the fine?

No one should rejoice in the firing of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday. By all accounts, McCabe’s career over two decades of FBI service was marked with achievements.
The firing, however, was based on the recommendation of a career FBI official under current FBI Director Chris Wray and was justified because the FBI has a zero tolerance for lying under oath. In fact, there are many examples of the rank and file in the FBI losing their jobs and retirement benefits for violating these high standards.
If a different standard is applied at the most senior levels, the FBI is lost. So while this is a sad day, the action taken demonstrates that the dedicated men and women of the FBI will accept no lower standards, regardless of your rank or status.

He made unauthorized disclosures to the media which isn't necessarily a crime but is grounds for firing. He did also lie under oath which is a crime for those of us not under the protection of a leftist agenda.
