It doesn't matter. There aren't special rules that give veterans, contractors, etc. special privileges for their spouses to apply for naturalization earlier than the three or five year rule.

Prices are dependent on your history and the coverage options. You will need to start my looking at your options through a health portal. Healthcare is month to month, but you can only enroll during certain periods unless you've had a special life event. I believe now is one of the enrollment periods so I'd get it locked in asap.

Today was the day! 

Went in for a combo I-751/N400 interview at the Seattle office and it was a breeze. On-time with a friendly officer, interviewed solo, and in 30 minutes was approved for a same day ceremony! I'll be heading back to USCIS (for the last time) in about 15 minutes!!!

The day has finally come that we have our interview tomorrow.

Last time we had an interview at USCIS, we were flagged for additional screening due to the world's most comical mix-up. Someone was asked whether we had a romantic relationship and thought they wanted some specific details they wouldn't share. 🤣 At the time, I thought I might pee myself in the waiting room while I awaited my turn at the questions. 

I'm rehashing the questions, just out of nostalgia while making some salsa, and I couldn't help but think - wouldn't it just be better to describe the mess that is my dining table? The empty licorice box, the two sets of door knobs, the random clothing rack bar from the project I keep forgetting, etc. It seems way more enlightening than where we ate last. 

Anyways - here's hoping to the END of this VJ. I'll keep everyone posted how it goes at the Seattle office with the joint interview. Fingers crossed!

I would argue that there is probably a higher level of divorce. Between those who have short relationships before getting married/never lived together, long waits where people/priorities change, the stress of being apart, the moving abroad/outside of your support network/stress restarting a career while at a disadvantage, the cards are more stacked against us. But I think real relationships last. Maybe it weeds out real relationships faster because of the additional stress? Higher divorce rate short term that evens out to the average?

Philippines is a really strict country with divorces. I'm not sure how you would need to proceed - you might need a divorce recognized by the local government before you can get married. From what I've seen on forums, it's expensive and takes a lot of time. VJers with more experience could provide more answers.

Also - did you do the divorce by the book? Was there a division of assets?

I wouldn't worry about it - it's a proposal that has to be passed. It's far from it at this point and I expect it to remain the same.

I'm in tomorrow, as well. Haven't slept well in a few days, just over the excitement and anticipation over this *maybe* being over. Not sure given the I751/N400 combo and the need to process both. I'd LOVE a same day ceremony. I hope you get one, too!

Yep - I'll see you there! Hopefully it goes equally uneventful and can get processed. It's a long time to drive (no matter where you are) and a long time to take off work. I'm excited for this weekend, but I'll be more excited for next weekend

Do you have other assets you can use? Do you have a consistent work history in Germany? And have you filed US taxes, as USCs living abroad are required to do?

We found that the cheapest was just sending items in suitcases. I would do it before you leave, as you won't be able to return back home for a while so the items will otherwise just be sitting. An alternative would be for your spouse to do a road trip and fill up the car/make a trip out of it. Either way you could visit FedEx to see what the price would be, but I'm assuming the cost of the books, etc. would be more than they're worth.

We also waited on a few things and could bring back extra items on other trips. By the time we made it back, so much time had passed that we no longer wanted/needed them anymore. If you can live without it for six months, you probably don't need it. That's what we found.

You can include all payments together. You do not have to pay for your daughters biometrics. 

Your check should total $1,975.

Mail the forms together and keep their relevant paperwork separate but together (parent first, then child).

Regardless, she needs to change it. In our state, you can update it online and don't need to update the physical copy. If the address, etc. isn't up to date, it can affect coverage for car insurance, etc. If she hasn't updated it, she needs to do it. There's a small grace period to update it, but she's way over.

Holding a student visa, you must be enrolled full time. One class does not qualify as being a full time student. If you want to continue and become a professor, you'll need to speak with your university to see what the best route is. If you want to continue this year, the likelihood is that you've missed the boat as Masters programs have already started and typically only start once a year. To teach at the college level, you need at least a Masters, however a Phd is preferred. Again, meet with advisers at your school to map out a plan. 

Non-skilled labor like Costco, Ikea, etc. do not sponsor work visas. Your education also doesn't align to working in the corporate sphere or tech where visas are sometimes sponsored.

You could apply again, however the odds aren't in their favor. If they've been denied twice and now they're wanting to come for a baby, it's going to look even more likely that they will stay. If your purpose is also to have them help with childcare, etc. that isn't something they can legally do or provide as an argument to travel, as USCIS views it as taking away a job from the US economy and working. Also, there is nothing you can do to sponsor their visa. They will need to apply and be accepted/rejected on their merit alone, however I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It's difficult to say when your case might be processed without knowing when you applied, which office, etc.

The best answer is that one month from her green card expiration/extension letter expiring, she will need to go to USCIS to get an I-551 stamp. Those are typically valid for six months or one year. It is as the discretion of the officer. 

Cases vary - Pending I-751 since August 2016, N-400 from July 2017, and appointment for N-400 on October 11th. 

There's a few issues - she has applied for two K-1 visas. K-1 visas show intent to immigrate. After applying for two, she will have a difficult time intending to show that she no longer has intent to immigrate (important part of a F-1 visa) and if you try to adjust status by getting married later on down the road, you're inviting trouble. The burden is on her to prove her intent and if the immigration officer doubts it, rejected. 

I doubt she's likely to get a F-1 visa and she probably wouldn't qualify for a work-sponsored visa as an English teacher wanting to move to the US. Her best bet would be a K-1 or CR-1 and will need lots of evidence - face time, etc. At this point, it looks like she's visa shopping.

Yes - Permanent residents are kept in a separate category that have a lesser priority than US citizens. Their petitions take longer as there is also limited visas. The current time for the office can be found below. Cases from November 7th 2016 and more recent are being processed. Overall, it's a good idea to anticipate a wait of 1.5-2 years overall. Basically, one year from now.

No - that if you had applied for an N400, they wait on processing the I751 until your N400 is ready to be processed - basically resulting in a longer wait.
