agnesb got a reaction from NikLR in EAD app needed with AOS??? - so confused - NEED HELP ASAP
Just to clarify, sending EAD and AP applications is optional but most choose to send it as you can work, get Driving licence, reenter the coutry etc.

agnesb reacted to Hypnos in AOS K1, urgent! Biometrics scheduled, got an RFE!
Unless your biometrics appointment is at a proper USCIS office (as opposed to an ASC - which is where most biometrics appointments take place) then there is no point asking them because they will have no idea.
USCIS offices = staffed by real Immigration Officers that are federal employees.
ASC offices = staffed by contractors that are basically glorified photographers. You'd probably get better advice from asking your mailman than them.

I adopted a 5 mo pup few months after we bought a house. Walknig a dog is a great way to meet people in your neighbourhood!
But I agree with others... Don't shop - adopt!

I brought my cats from Indonesia to America. Rescued cats - not bought ones-. They are the most loving and smartest cats I have ever had.
U.S. is not as strict as the other countries for example U.K. In fact, my country - following rules from U.K.- more strict than U.S. regarding pets policy. I had to prepare all documents and when I was at my PoE at Detroit, the officer did not even asked us the documents. He just asked my husband," oh is it a cat? I can see his paws hanging around. So cute". That's all.
My advise to whoever wants to bring their pets to the U.S., pay attention to the home country of pets and how to prepare the quarantine before they are leaving. Also, only two states in the U.S. have to do quarantine, Hawaii and Guam. Pet policy of airlines also included. Choose wisely which airlines allow to bring pets with their owners. I refused to use airlines that put my cats in cargo.
My cats are small and airlines allowed my husband and I took them with carry-on luggages. It was long flight 22 hours excluding layovers. But that was worth of money, time and energy to brought them with us.

Only pages 1 and 5. Make sure civil surgeon understands you only need vaccine records updated and wont try to convince you you need to redo the whole thing.

agnesb reacted to Kajikit in Do you like American food and water?
There are plenty of health nuts in America... America pretty much INVENTED the 'health food industry', as well as the fast-food/junk food industries... and farmer's markets/'eating local'/eating 'natural' are the flavours of the year. You can eat anywhere on the spectrum you feel like if you can afford it...
And if you can't... well, it probably took me three years or so to get used to 'Eating American'. There is a ton of sugar/salt/fat/flavourings in almost everything you eat. It wasn't what I was used to at all (especially the bread... ugh) After a decade, I can't remember what 'home' was like. But I LOVE Trader Joes... much better quality food at great prices.

I get you. I felt like that after arriving to US and hearing about shooting or pedestrians hit every single day in Orlando. It was real and close. We lived downtown for first few months and was terrified of walking around by myself. After moving to suburbs I still felt strange and out of place but it passed and I hope you'll feel confident being by yourself soon. Maybe a google maps scout will help you familiarize yourself with the area and who knows maybe you'll find an organization nearby where you could volunteer, a library or a park?

Glass door itself is not at fault. They are just a job board. It does not mean that all jobs posted there are a scam. You can actually find many useful information on that portal i.e. Company specific pay rates, interview questions and general employee reviews. That being said it's sad that those suspicious looking ads are not being removed of the website.

Kasia, short names work in exactly same way as they do in Poland. You'll find a lot of Dave's (david), Bobs (robert), Katherine (Kate, Katie) etc... And there's me Agnieszka, but everyone calls me Aga, just like back in Poland. They'd probably call me Agusia or Agula if that would be my preference. Kasia, Kasienka, Kaska can be a name you go by, at work(my work email&id have Aga on it), around family and friends, at your dentist office and school (a lot of places have a field for "nickname or known as") but leave Katarzyna on your forms as your first name. It's not like you have to fill a lot of forms or spell your name a lot after you're all settled.. Good luck with your journey!

When i moved to US i didnt have DL also. I used indeed.com to find jobs in my zip code area ( advanced search, scroll down, choose zip code and pick "only in") and found a job 4 miles away from home. I was biking there to start with (on the side walk,as too scared to bike on the roads in Orlando) and now I'm still working there enjoying a nice <10 min commute by car :-) Now, I'm not saying it will work in your case but may be worth a try! Good luck!

agnesb got a reaction from kitthekat in Is the I-765 the chicken or the egg?
You do not need a job offer to apply for work authorisation. You just send i-765 together with your aos paperwork and wait 2-3 months for the card. Meanwhile you are free to look and apply for the jobs, even go to interviews and if you get a job offer and it's before you got EAD you can try and expedite your request based on that job offer.

agnesb reacted to Anna Grant in How to request to expedite your EAD based on a job offer
I thought I would write this up as I was successful in expediting my EAD.
Called USCIS on 1-800-375-5283 on 4 September.
Said 'I would like to expedite my EAD because I have been offered a job and cannot take it up until I have the right to work in the US'
I was given a list of reasons as to why my expedited EAD may be considered. These reasons are:
Severe financial loss to company or individual Extreme emergent situation Humanitarian situation Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government) USCIS error Compelling interest of USCIS I selected 'severe financial loss'. I said that I had been unable to work due to waiting for the K1 process to finish - I was made redundant. I said that whether this could be consider severe or not was open to opinion.
The person at USCIS then read back to me what she had typed up and told me that someone would be in contact with 5 working days. She gave me a reference number for my request. She said there was no guarantee that my request would be granted.
On 9 September I received a letter from USCIS requesting that I fax them proof of my job offer, together with a reference number and also to fax their letter. I did that the same afternoon and also included the state exam and license I had taken in order to get the job offer. I also included a cover letter.
On 10 September I received an e-mail to tell me that my status had changed to 'card production' for my EAD. My AP was updated about 2 hours later.
I thought I would write this up as I've noticed a couple people saying that they've managed to expedite their EAD because of a job offer but did not explain how they did it.
