    My wife has a tesla, so I was scratching my head at the linked article for a moment. Charging at home is more expensive than the superchargers. Even with that, it's about $15 per 100 miles (home charging), whereas my mustang is about $27 per 100 miles. But that is California, and I don't know the rates elsewhere. I do know that every time Texas has one of their grid meltdowns my cousin can't charge his car for a few weeks until electricity prices go down from the absurd rates. So I suppose in a state like Texas, who has a crumbling infrastructure and not exactly reliable energy grid (Except El Paso), it would be quite a bit more expensive charging at home.

    They were on government business and required to use Trump properties. Auditors claim that he was using inflated rates, of course, Trump and his family claim otherwise, but the fact that he was using his properties for directed government business is a breach of the emoluments clause. Lucky for him, SCOTUS is stacked in his favor. They overturned a lower court ruling but refused to take the case up themselves. You know, discovery could get ugly in a case like that.

  4. The only breaches of law that I think really should be looked at is his family's continued breach of the emoluments clause. Not only did he continue to actively run his business' during his administration, but his family used their positions to secure and expand their business' in China and the Middle East. Then there is the fact that Trump forced federal government to use his privately owned properties to house traveling diplomats and government agents. This required the government to finance upgrades to his properties to meet diplomatic travel standards.

    Where have they said anything to the effect that they are calling on supporters to rise up? You're arguing based on emotion, not facts. There is a definitive difference between political speech, puffery, and incitement.

    You're missing the finer points of it. Merely suggesting irregularities in the voting, or even saying it's rigged is covered under the first amendment. However, when you have an armed mob at a rally, blocks from the capitol building, and you say "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore" , that can very easily be construed as a call to arms. Like I said, we'll have to see what a judge and jury believe.

    How does this assault his freedom of speech? Contrary to popular republican opinion, not all speech is covered under the first amendment. In this case, incitement is specifically not covered, as well as false statements are not protected either. To some degree, I do agree with you that many of the charges are inflated, but the mishandling of documents, and the incitement one charges pretty obviously have merit. I guess we'll find out what a jury believes.

    Unless of course you are ok with all of the texts, video , audio and witness statements that so far back up every charge. And as you pointed out..Jack has a great deal more reserved for trial.

    I really don't understand this madness with reticence towards vaccines and public health safety. It's based in ignorance and misinterpretation of a social contract. Yes, it is mostly survivable, but so is cancer. However, unlike cancer, it's not transmitted by simply breathing on someone. It's not just about your individual freedom and right to your own body, this impacts many many others. But let's be honest, the arguments against vaccines and pandemic protocols is disingenuous at best. The people who claim my body my my choice won't support giving that same right to women's reproductive rights. Hell, these are the same people who are against teaching any part of history that could possibly make someones feelings to get hurt.

    Why not, breaching the National Labor Relations Act is a federal offense? You only really see unions get in the news when they become too powerful for their, or the public good (Read Teachers and Police Unions). I don't understand why liberals seem to think that Bezos supports them in any shape or form. Just because he is the enemy of Trump doesn't automatically make him anything other than what he is, a gluttonous profiteer who would stab his own mother if it would increase his revenues.

The impeachment trials are completely immaterial to this sort of lawsuit.  First of all, the impeachment hearings are a political kangaroo court where you had 1/4 of the jurors (Trump apologist senators) meeting with the defense lawyers to strategize. Second, this is a civil lawsuit, and a federal one at that, which is far different from the Perry Mason episodes you're thinking of. The rules are different, and the standard of proof to convict is much less than a criminal case. That being said, I don't think they will get any judgment on Trump or his campaign. Perhaps the domestic terrorist proud boys and oathkeepers.

    Then you obviously misunderstood just about everything he said. He's the one who converted the religious and political warriors, and saw boogeymen around every corner. Not saying that the left is any better, but let's not pretend that Rush was a real conservative. He was an ultra wealthy plutocrat who sold his conservative bona fides to the ultra wealthy overlords so that he could somewhat join them (He was worth nearly $700m). Not that there is anything wrong with being wealthy, but when your wealth is derived from government contracts and deregulation that only serves you and your buddies, then you are no better than the lefties who want to give money to all the poor and immigrants.

     

    I hope he is at peace, and I won't wish any ill will upon him, but American politics are a much better place without him. Now if only HIllary, Mitch, Donald, Pelosi and all the rest of the hypocrites would leave politics, we could actually pare down this government to what it was intended to be, without all the largesse via pork spending.

  16. To be honest, the last 8 presidents have been objectively terrible, from an economic, as well as foreign and domestic policy standpoint. They have turned this country over to the ultra wealthy, both liberal and conservative, and leveraged their support by bending over for the ultra religious zealots. There is way too much support for religion, and socialism in this country.

  17. From a practical standpoint, I would think that Senators Cruz and Cornyn along with Gov. Abbot should be requesting FEMA support and federal aid. I know Texas and it's citizens like to believe the fairy tale that they are super independent, but the fact is that per capita, Texas receives more money than California. They are amongst the bottom 10 states in terms of dollars paid to received from the federal government.

     

    Or is Texas just going to double down on their ineptitude and continue to let their dilapidated infrastructure continue to crumble, allowing more people to die due to the incompetence of the state government?

  18. UK election results are just as hilarious as those stateside. The majority of votes for conservatives are from feeble voters who only care about their religious freedoms, which are already guaranteed. FFS, half of America votes Repuablican because they believe Obama is going to force them to marry someone of the same genger, and force them to abort an AR-15 whiile exhorting their support for Islam. It's like the special olympics being forced on everyone.

    But that's absurd. They haven't committed the same acts. President Trump has actually been impeached. President Obama was accused of all sorts of malfeasement, but conservatives could never actually articles of impeachment.  That''s not to imply that nothing was wrong, but, conservatives could prove nothing legally or  congressionally wrong or illegal.
