When you submit your AOS you will also want to apply for EAD/AP card ( work permit and travel card) There is no charge for these when submitted with the I485. A couple of weeks after submitting your AOS you will get an appointment letter for your Biometrics. Your EAD/AP card usually comes 2-3 months after the biometrics appointment. If you are one of the lucky ones you will get a letter in the mail sometime after your biometrics appointment scheduling you for an interview usually just a few months after your initial application is submitted. The green card is approved at the interview and comes in the mail shortly after. so, about 4 months or so total processing time.
If your application is determined not to need an interview (it is not really known how that is decided) then it will remain at the National benefits center for processing and you will be issued your green card when they get around to it. Right now it is taking 9 months to one year. You will want to make sure you apply for EAD/AP so you can work and travel outside the US while waiting for the green card.
so, to answer your question, it could take anywhere from a couple of months to one year

Couldn't agree more! Plus, we have already been scrutinized in the K1 process - gone thru the background checks, had to supply financials, medicals - endless relationship proof. As long as the forms are filled out correctly and supporting documents have been provided - what could possibly take soooo long?

how can they be mad about a pink stripe - at least they are issued a license which is more than someone who is here legally on a K1 visa can get - at least in the state of MO - they will not issue until EAD - my hubby would have been happy with any color stripe - as long as he could drive
Absolutely appalling all the time and attention the illegals get from the government - but those of us who are going about it the legal way sit and what while our file is in limbo waiting to be processed.

The fiance letter of intent should be included in the initial 129f petition and should be done by both petitioner and beneficiary

Hang in there! It took us about 9 months total from the time I sent my initial application until my fiance got here. We didn't receive and RFE's. It was a lesson in patience for me there is nothing quick about this entire process.

At least i know now that i am not the only one! Not that it makes it any better, but I just kept thinking wth? everyone seems to zoom right thru NVC and i am wondering whats going on with my petition that is holding it up.
I'm glad this topic was posted because it helps to know that not everyone moves right thru NVC. I haven't called in the last couple of days because I got tired of hearing the same thing. I have tried using this link

It took us 4 months and 3 weeks to get our approval - felt like forever! Like others have suggested find something to do. I now have the world's cleanest closets!
