Unfortunately, this doesn't 'prove' anything, as people leave their children to immigrate all the time, especially from particular countries.

It’s sad but I know it’s true. What about for my younger sister. The 11 year old. What proof could he provided she will return. And the same for my older sister? How do normal average Filipinos get a tourist visa?  Maybe even below average when it comes to finances... they are a poorer family from a poorer barangay.. this is just frustrating lol

  2. Lol yes current ban aside. I’m a long term planner. The plan is for spring-summer of next year. The length of the visit is only 3-4 weeks. The baby will 1 year old and will stay with our mother while they are here. I’m just concerned over the stories that suggest you can’t get a tourist visa without showing you have a lot of money in an account in the Philippines or own a home and land. My family is poor and has never owned an account much less have any money In it. Also it’s not so much as bringing my husband into it as it is smarter for us financially. We’re a family of 5 and it’s much cheaper to bring some of my family here to visit us throughout the year than us travel together to the Philippines. Thanks for your reply.

  3. Hello everyone. What are the chances of getting a tourist visa approved for my older sister and younger sister? Their ages are 23 and 11. My older sister has a baby to prove she would come back. My husband (US Citizen) would be paying for the whole trip for them. I’m just not sure if having a baby is enough to prove she would return, and also what proof would be needed to show my younger sister would return? Other than having to be back in time for school? Thank you all so much for any tips and advice.

To everyone who is/was k1 fiancee visa holder who had done their interview: Did you bring your DS-3025 (with 1 yr validity) or I-693 transcribed by a civil surgeon?

We brought the DS3025. However it nor any medical questions were asked or reviewed. As long as you filed within 12 months of your medical, you meet the requirement. If it’s after the 12 months that’s when you must have the civil surgeon one and new medical.

  5. Also, as for waiting to use your “married name” once you get citizenship. You have to consider that you’ve lived your life and all records for the 3 years (minimum) leading up to filing for naturalization you have used your maiden name. It will be just as much of a headache to change all those things after naturalization to married name as it would be just to do it now. Just food for thought. 😉

I haven’t changed my last name yet. Initially I wanted to wait until I become a citizen (to avoid confusion with my current passport), but now I would prefer to change my last name sooner. Ideally I would have changed my last name before filing for my AOS.

I’m confused. Your marriage license is your name change document. As a k1 there isn’t anything you need to change to married name. You can report your marriage to your home country if you want to have your married name on your passport but this isn’t really necessary or a requirement. When you file you AOS you normally file using your “married” name. Then USCIS issues your EAD/AP Card and Greencard in your married name. If you were able to get a ssn before AOS is completed it will normally be issued in your maiden name (you’re not suppose to be able to file for ssn after marriage as k1 but some still slip through). And you can change it to married name and update you status in the SS system as permanent resident once you get your greencard. If you received license in a state that allows k1 To get one and you didn’t get it in your married name, you’ll be able to update it with marriage license and or greencard. There are no complications to worry about with having your passport and grencard name not match. Most people travel that way and just carry a copy of the marriage license just in case. But either way, you should be able to tell the officer that you’d like the card issued in your married name and just explain your reasoning why you initially filed using your maiden name. Just make sure you have originals of all supporting documents such as marriage license etc.

Has anyone changed their maiden name before the AOS interview? I want to take my husbands last name but i don’t know how I should proceed. I’ve heard I can bring a letter to the interview and request the immigration officer to issue my GC with my married name even though I used my maiden name for my filings. Any thoughts or experience with this?

What was your reasoning by filing using your maiden name? They will issue the card using the name you applied with. I’m not sure if you can change it at the interview. You may be able to since they ask you to confirm your name and sign.

Has anyone received their EAD combo? Were you issued SSN card too?

I received the combo card, but didn’t receive the ssn card. After my greencard interview (4 days after I received EAD card) I went to the SSO and applied for ssn. I checked informed delivery today and  the greencard and ssn are supposed to be delivered today. I received my AOS approval notice hard copy yesterday

Wohoo! I am so happy for you fellow Georgian! Now my question is, if you have not gotten the EAD combo:

    1. Are you allowed to travel with only your GC? Is there not a need for AP anymore?

    2. Still with EAD combo, if GC came first, do you have to wait for USCIS to issue your EAD or just go straight to SSA and apply for your SSN?

For people who would like to contribute your experiences, feel free to provide your answers too. 🙂

Once you have greencard you no longer need EAD/AP for work or travel. They are only used while you’re pending your greencard interview/ card I hand. If greencard comes first usually they will cancel the EAD if it hasn’t been mailed yet. It is is still mailed it is nothing more than an extra ID. But you wouldn’t use it for travel or work.

It looks like we’re bypassing EAD and AP and going straight to green card, our interview is the 29th.

We chose the option in the EAD application to get a social security number with that. I was wondering, for anyone else who went straight to green card, did you still get your social security number or need to apply for it once the green card was approved?

    Thanks a mil :)

We also received our interview date before any progress on the EAD/AP. But we’re receiving the card today supposedly and our interview is this fridayFriday

Did apply SSN separately or you checked the option in your i-485?

We did both. We applied for ssn separately before we got married. But it went through that long verification process.. so we also checked the block on the 485. Back in June I saw the ssn card in my informed delivery... but it never arrived and we’ve had nothing but problems trying to get them to send another one... as for my EAD , the tracker updated today but only says it’s on its way and is between facilities right now. So hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow...

  12. Despite the EAD being priority mail, and the tracker originally stating it would arrive by 8pm Friday (27Sep) it still has yet to arrive and the tracking currently only states it’s between facility’s... anything significantly less important such as junk mail, bills, or advertisements show up early and in perfect condition.... first my SSN card never arrives and is lost in the mail... now the EAD is taking over 24 hours passed it’s estimated delivery.... oh and although I can still track it by the tracking number, it has dropped off my “informed delivery” 🤦🏻‍♂️🤬😡😤
