Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some advice on some tax questions since my wife and I are thoroughly confused. Big shout out to everyone by the way, we have searched through here throughout the visa process and you all have saved us many times! My wife came from Canada on the K-1 visa last year at the end of February and we got married at the beginning of March. She did work for the first month and a half of the year in Canada, but nothing since arriving. We recently had the I-765 approved, but no SSN like requested came with it (we plan on heading into the SSA in a couple of days). We also were just approved for the green card this week. My questions are: -From what I've read, we should be filing jointly here in the US. Is this correct? -If we do file jointly and we report her earnings from 2020, does she still need to file in Canada as well? -Should we get a tax pro to help us out through this? If so, any recommendations on who to go with (such as HR Block)? Are we filing an expat tax return? -Does her retirement fund RSP have to be reported? The bank mentioned it would not, but just wanted to be sure. Thank you all in advance and stay safe!

So, I completed the AR-11 on my wife's iPhone in November, 2018. I called USCIS to ensure all of my papers were being filled out with consistent information and the associate I spoke to on the phone noted that he did not have my updated address. I advised him that I had filed the AR-11 a few years prior online, but I did not have a confirmation number for the form I filed. He said to just submit the AR-11 form as soon as possible, it takes up to 30 days to process, and I should be fine. So, I will likely be waiting until they process my AR-11 form to file my N-400 form (I need to wait for paperwork from Canada anyway to be sure of some dates regarding tickets and such). I will keep you updated as to how they treat this situation. I know in my heart I filed that form online using my wife's phone, but have no proof. Hopefully they will overlook my late address change. The USCIS customer service agent seemed to believe they would and that it was not that big of a deal, as long as the form was sent ASAP after our discussion. And I did just that the following day, made sure that the mail I sent to USCIS had a tracking number and that USCIS had to sign for it. I included an explanation as to how I found out USCIS did not have my AR-11 form and why the form was filed so late. Let me know what you all think. I will, hopefully, have no issues with my N-400 form due to this, but if I do, I'll keep you updated as to what issues I run into. For all of you, KEEP ALL OF YOUR CONFIRMATION NUMBERS AND PROOF OF EVERYTHING YOU SEND, even if you have to just send an email to yourself with proof that you sent a form to USCIS (a screen shot or anything). This was the ONLY time I did not keep proof of a form I sent to USCIS, and it may bite me in the butt. I don't believe it will cause an issue, since them not getting the form was not my intention. We will see!

SO My fiance came in from Canada on December 26th 2020 as a visitor. He has the standard 6 months allowed in the US. We got engaged in February and are marrying on 4/10. We plan on submitting the paperwork shortly thereafter. i -485, i -130, i -864 etc..... I read over I-485 A and it seems we might fall in this category. I'm really not sure. 1- Do we need to fill it out? 2- How much is it? Thanks Kierra and Clayton

Hello, I have looked around and found some information from 2009 but wondering who can help me with this. Where is the updated list of what supporting information is needed? The i-134 doesnt call out any specific documents. The list I have so far is; - A signed statement from your employer on business letterhead that states the date and nature of your employment, salary paid, and whether the position is temporary or permanent - A copy of your last U.S. federal income tax return (i am assuming that since my 2020 taxes are being filed now i will use my 2019 tax filing?) - W2 - Past 3-months of pay-stubs Any other items that I should provide would be appreciated. Thanks!
