Apologies if this is a topic that's overdone. I went through about a dozen pages of posts, but finding a direct comparable is never easy.

I went through my green card journey about 6 years ago and have since naturalized. I have a now 20 year old son from a previous marriage that wants to go through the process and immigrate, possibly naturalize in the future.

First step; I complete the I-130. No problem.

What I'm hoping to figure out is the next and best step for moving him here. He's coming from Canada, and as many of my fellow former Canadians could attest to, the medical and interview process in Montreal is a burden to anyone living in western Canada. I'm not sure if it's avoidable for him, but naturally I'm hoping.

My options, as I understand them, are as follows:

1 - wait for consular processing to contact him for the next steps while he remains living in Canada.

2 - form I-129F for a K visa while the I-130 processes. I-751 to change status later. It's my understanding he would get student and work clearance with a K visa? We've communicated our expectations that he attend college and acquire part time employment if he's doing this, so that's something I'd like to confirm. Had anyone gone this route? I'd love to hear what your experience is.

One last thing, with him being 20, I don't imagine that the old custody agreement with my ex is relevant to this at all? Most of these documents are gone. No longer relevant after he graduated high school.

Thank you for any advice or experiences!

Hi, looking to see if anyone has found a way to get directly in-touch with the USCIS officer that interviewed them post naturalization interview. How do you submit evidence if they ask for more? I was not asked for more but my interview occured 12/13/2022, with a pending i-751. This is all marriage based. I passed, and the officer didnt realize my i-751 was pending until we got to that question. And no, he didnt need to request/wait for my file. It was in front of him on his desk. He asked if i wanted to give additional evidence so i gave him recent mortgae statements, health insurance, other insurance stuff since everything in the i-751 was from summer of 2020. It's february, and no movement. Yes, my spouse was outside but was never asked to come in. I honestly feel like he put my file on the back of his desk and forgot about it. I've put in a message through the USCIS portal and got a general response back saying the last status is that i attended the interview.

Has anyone had this happen, and been waiting this long? Any way to get through to this guy? I legit feel like i was just forgotten and not this is just pending because no one is thinking/looking at it...out of sight out of mind. I wonder if now with things being more elctronic if officers get promts when something is approaching the 120 days... but i doubt it, and it's probably just wishful thinking. At this point it has been 38 business days post interview that was passed and he even made the comment that 1) he would look at my case next week (i.e. Week of December 20th), and when i gave him the additional evidence he said he doesn't forsee there being problems with i-751 approval with this type of evidence and us having as child together since getting married etc. How can i just get someone to remind this guy to look at my stuff --- we really are an easy case!

Canadian Income and U.S. Tax Question

Hi all! I become a LPR last year in October and I moved from Canada. Prior to becoming a resident alien for tax purposes, I was earning income from my regular salaried job in Canada which I expect to receive a T4 slip from this year, as well as through YouTube (I make online videos). My question is, for the income I earned before I became a permanent resident, how should I go about reporting that income on my 2022 U.S. Federal Tax Return? Should this income even be reported? I'm not sure if I'm considered a Dual-Status alien.

I have a tax appointment in the morning and I'll definitely ask these questions. I'm just a little curious because the tax accountant did explicitly say over the phone that his firm does not handle Canadian tax.

I am fully aware that any income earned after I became a permanent resident, including worldwide income, is taxable. I'm just concerned about the income earned before I received my green card. Hope that makes sense. I'd love some insight into this. :)

Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.

filed my wife s i130 in August while living apart.

Her name is Jennifer on it is spelled as such On her passport and drivers lic ( Canada). We just got her long form BC from Nova Scotia for use in filing her Adjustment of Status ( hard left turn from original plan but here we are) anyways, so on her birth certificate her first name is spelled Jenifer. One N. Given she hasn t seen this since she was a teenager( so nearly 30 years ago) we had no idea there was a discrepancy between her BC and her passport and ID.

so now we are filing out the papers for her aos and of course this discrepancy is the worry in our minds. When filing the new papers we are thinking we will of course spell it as written on her BC and hope the i130 difference isn t a big deal should we include a note on why there s a discrepancy?
