Hi all - I am in an issue where my conditional green card expires July 27 and I start a new job, July 31. I have already applied for my removal of conditions June 9th and am crossing all my fingers and toes that the notification comes before July 31st, but have no guarantees as I am dealing with USCIS after all. I am wondering what other options do I have? Couple I can think of:

1. I have applied for an unrestricted SSN and am hoping to use that for I-9 verification as a last resort. However, I imagine when my employer uses e-verify, if USCIS has not processed my I-751 application by then I would not be employment authorized at that point?
2. I m wondering if I should ask my employer to start me earlier. I just don t want to ask something like is there a possibility I can start earlier due to my conditional green card expiring July 27?
3. I could just delay my start date which is something I would rather avoid doing!

Any insights or experiences with this would be greatly appreciated!

Unrestricted SSN … I think the office did it wrong?

Hi all,

I applied for my unrestricted SSN this morning. The SSN lady filed out the form for me today and said she was unable to remove the legend and it will still come with some kind of legend saying work authorized. I was throughly confused by this because either your card is restricted or unrestricted. I got this letter too that says I still need DHS approval for my SSN. Is this correct? Sounds like she did not know what she was doing! Any help on this would be highly appreciated!

I-864 Affidavit of Support Obligations

Hello,

During the time when I was applying for AOS, my US citizen husband was a student so I needed a sponsor for the I-864. Our friend was kind enough to be my sponsor. I am now in the ROC phase of immigration and my husband is now working. I want to free our friend from any I-864 obligations. Is there any way to do that? I am wondering this because our friend may need to sponsor family members in the future and I do not want to have my case affect him in any way.

Thanks.

Naturalization Interview 1 week before International travel -- Is this Enough Time?

I just found out that my Naturalization interview is booked on July 12th at a new field office opening in Cranbury NJ.

I also have a trip to Canada booked for 10 days on July 21st to see my parents (that I haven't seen in 1 year) and my sister who's flying over from Australia (that I haven't seen in 5 years).

It seems like this might be too tight of a window to get a passport in time before travel (assuming I'm approved and take the oath on the same day) so I'm trying to figure out which action I can take to solve this issue that creates the least anxiety, with the smallest financial burden. What would you do in this circumstance?

Current Considerations:

Rebook my travel dates further into the future; however, the airline told me that between change fee's and the difference in airfare it will cost me almost $1000 to move the trip. I'm a full time student, so this isn't ideal. (Refund/cancellation not available)
I could try requesting to reschedule my interview appointment for a later date. (Any date in the next 6 months would be better to me than missing this trip to see my family!) How likely is USCIS to honor a rescheduling request on the basis of imminent travel?

I could attend the interview as scheduled, hope for same-day oath, and try to get an Urgent Travel Passport appointment before I fly - which seems like it might be the riskiest/most stressful option.

Lastly, it seems like many USCIS locations will allow you to take your oath on a later date if requested but I can't find much info about that as an option in New Jersey -- let alone at a field office that hasn't even opened yet. If anyone in New Jersey has ever requested the oath to be delayed/rescheduled with success I would be so interested in hearing about your experience!

So given these circumstances - what would you do?
