PSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1."  The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!).  I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!

Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before....  I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago.  We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"

Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?

    Hello,

We havent been able to get an interview spot at the Montreal Consulate. I'm wondering if any fellow K1 petitioners with beneficiaries based out of Canada are in the same boat? There are a handful of people on reddit in /r/NationalVisaCenter who also have the same dilemma. People have reported no slots since mid January 2026.

It feels like there is no end in sight, and those who have completed this journey before us are pretty vague when they try ro reassure or answer questions. It honestly feels pretty hopeless at points.

Going to file the N-400 soon, have some questions

Some of this is based off the G-1151 and other information that I've read. I will be filing the N-400 online. I looked at the paper form but have not looked at the online form yet.

My wife got the IR1 visa and emigrated to US on June 10th, 2023. Am I correct that I can file the N-400 online now?

    1. On the day of the interview, you have to bring certified tax returns. It says certified tax returns may be ordered by using the IRS Form 4506-T.
      1. Can I use the "Return Transcripts" available from my online IRS account for the N-400 online? It seems you can use it for the online N-400 application but for the actual interview, you need certified copies?
    2. It seems they need past 3 years if filing based on marriage? We got married in 2021. I filed MFS for 2021 and 2022. When my spouse arrived in June 2023, I went back and amended my 2021 and 2022 returns as MFJ. Therefore, I only need 2025, 2024, and 2023 calendar year tax returns right?
    3. I paid tax owed for 2025 just now. Do you know when it will be "effective" so I can include the tax return for 2025?
    4. The N-400 asks for USCIS Online Account Number (if any). Should I provide the one that I got when I filed the I-130?
    5. Although I didn't see it, I'm sure it will ask for last 5 years of addresses of places where she lived. We both traveled to Bahamas in March 2021 to get married and we stayed there for 3 months for the honeymoon/vacation in 2021 (March to June). Do we need to include those addresses?
    6. For marriage evidence, we are going to show the following:
      1. 1 joint checking account
      2. 2 joint investment accounts
      3. 2 retirement accounts with my spouse as the beneficiary
      4. Joint cell phone plan (also shows my parents)
      5. We don't have any rentals or anything like that (live with my parents)

Today I received a second letter from USCIS requesting a $235 payment for my son, but I have already applied for his passport. Can I ignore this letter, or do I still need to pay the fee despite having applied for the passport?

I understand that once I receive his passport, I will need to apply for a SSN for him.

    Hey folks,

This year we decided to rent out the home I own in my home country. Tax season is upon us, and now we have no idea how to file our taxes correctly as I have two incomes (here and overseas). Also, my husband is a server and things have changed for him too. We don't know what is our best course of action. Do you guys have any advice?

Good Afternoon all... Can anybody point me in the right direction... I am a New Yorker (US citizen) I  filed my I-130 for my  Dominican spouse in Dec. 2025. We are now expecting. How does this change my application... Or what changes do I need to make/take. The baby is due around November 2026.  By then my wife will probably still be waiting for the  NVC interview. How would I then add a child to my application if I already sent it in? Can I at all get my child a US Passport or because they will be born abroad have the citizenship of that country DR. Please be easy with your responses and not rude. This is a learning process for me.

Christina! We received our appointment notification email today! Our appointment was scheduled for April 9th 2026. We are very excited. We received the "you've got mail" ding while we were still in bed. I hope you received an email as well. If not, stay hopeful that it could arrive this week!

Hello @RSJRGT: You made a post on the thread for appointments in Ciudad Juarez recently. I just noticed that many people with DQ dates in February and march are announcing online that they received appointment notifications in the past 2 days. I wanted to check if you have received any e-mails from NVC.

Hello @Cristina0123, I hope you and your spouse are doing well. I see posts online that people are receiving interviews for DQ dates in february and march. By chance have you received an email from the NVC?
