I went all out to make sure I was organized. I had a 1/2" 3-ring binder and bought lots of plastic sleeve covers to put the papers in. Within the binder, I had 3 sections - forms, evidence of having met in past 2 years, and evidence of ongoing relationship. I made a table of contents for each section, and also stuck post-its where needed to give some context to the evidence I was including. I know, I'm #######

Good luck getting it together!

BigCityDave,

We used pretty much what you read here - wasn't worthy of a picture though... There's no 'right' or 'wrong' way really - just keep it simple, organized and keep in mind, someone will be going through it so making it convenient for them is a nice thing.

Shudder. This is absolutely not what to do. USCIS will disassemble and reassemble your submission to fit their own needs. I can just imagine the swear words uttered under the breath of the poor staffer who had to take all your pages out of a binder, throw the binder in the trash, then take each page out of a sleeve and put them all together again in a proper format. I hope they weren't of a mind to lose something out of spite.

A stack of papers in the order they are mentioned in the cover letter, fastened in some way to keep them in order until they are touched by USCIS staff, is all that is needed. The suggestions in the Guides are just fine except I wouldn't go out and buy a box of ACCO fasteners just to use one to file a petition. I had some paper clamps of an appropriate size that would do just fine. Since you've got the fasteners and punch already, use them, of course.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

this may be your opinion, however there is no right or wrong way. They will not reject a petition because of its organizational appearance. they will take it all shoved loose in an envelope or bound in a binder with plastic sleeves or clipped together with paper clips. They disassemble them all anyway. They will put the package in the order they wish, even if clipped with an arco fastener. There have been countless approved petitions sent in with binders and sleeves and accordian folders etc.

it part of the job of the mail room to sort the documents and put it in the order they wish. i also put my petition in a binder with plastic sleeves contrary to your "shudder", and my petition is just fine as is theirs. They recommend an arco fastner, but they are more concerned with the submission having all the documents and signatures etc than how it is organized by the submitter. As you said, USCIS will disassemble and reassemble your submission to fit their own needs. regardless of how you submit it.

and i doubt they are consistently uttering swear words. they have seen it all.

What are acco fasteners??

I just organized into the order on the coversheet, paperclipped where appropriate, and then fastened the different sections with the big black clips (or at least clips of appropriate size).... are those acco fasteners? If so, I use them all the time for paperwork

Only 3 volumes? Surely you could have done four if you'd tried harder.

I used ACCO fasteners at the top and had tab separators for each section including any supplemental pages for the I-129 and G-325. I used the general assembly instructions from the guide here on VJ.

So that's why USCIS is so backlogged! Everyone is trying to get a looksee at your petition ;)

I also went by the VJ guides and made a packet bound by ACCO (those big black metal clip) fastners and 2-hole punched at the top. I put the table of contents on the top so it would be easy to thumb through and find the appropriate documents. I also used plastic sleeves for all the smaller or loose bits that didnt fit right in the 8 1/2 x 11 frame. Sorry that I dont have any photo, per se, to show, but I did scan the entire thing into my computer as image files. It is adviseable to at least copy the whole mess a couple of times (you're going to need another copy later). But having it in the computer has been extremely helpful to me down the road.

Photos would not really help you. Everyone's would be different! We all send different evidence, vary the order, and so forth. There is no exact assembly order. You've top-holed punched and used the preferred ACCO fasteners. It sounds like you've done it right.

Chris, you've missed his point entirely. I totally agree with Pushbrk - except the bit about spitefully losing something.

read this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...dicator-q-and-a

it is all from a thread from a VJ member/ former USCIS adjudicator & it gives a little insight to the process (at least at the time the guy was there). Please note where it's stressed that they process apps fast, how they're judged on how many they process, etc.

To have things in binders with sleeves and all fancy DOES cost the adjudicator more time in disassembling the petition from the original format to a pile of papers the way they need it done. Obviously, with the two hole punch, it means it's going into a file and being bound at the top. So the binder and fancy plastic sheet protectors is a superfluous timewaster.
