What is needed for children on K-1 petition?

My fiance has a 5 year old daughter and she is listed on the K-1 visa application. We were told that she would have to obtain the medical certificate along with my fiance. Are there any other forms, certificates, or procedures needed for her daughter, such as a police certificate? I understand that it would be crazy to need a police background check on a 5 yr old, but my fiance was told there was a form the police department issued for minors pertaining to the visa process. I can not find any information about this and I am not aware of it. We have not received NOA-2 yet, but we are trying to get the forms that take the longest to obtain (like the police certificate). I know the instructions will be sent to her by the embassy in Colombia, but we want to try and speed up the process anyway we can.

Can someone let me know what I need to do pertaining to a minor child?

At the consulate the process is seperate but identical ex police certificate... (for a child under age 16)

For the K-2 Visa, you will need:

- the child's long-form birth certificate.

- medical exam.

I don't think children that age require a police certificate.

The child will not need a police report just a birth certificate, immunizations and physical. Also as a heads up, you will need written notarized permission ( I think within 30 days of departure date ) from the father in order for your daugther to leave Colombia. If he is dead of course you will need a death certificate. If he is missing, then I believe you will need paperwork from a judge.

Thanks everyone. So, I have everything covered.....medical exam (with mother), birth certificate (got it), and death certificate for her father (have it). Is that it? Nothing pertaining to any police checks or certificates? If not, then it looks like we have everything covered.

Well, she'll need a packet three, and four with visa applications filled out and visa fee paid as well. She'll also need a passport to put the visa in. If you listed her in the I-129F, the Consulate will send the P3 and P4.

Each country is different when it comes to minor children, so spend time getting familiar with that country's laws concerning protection of children. In your case, I'd say you are well prepared.

This is another of those issues that varies with the Country. The meaning of "full custody" can vary according to local law. It's best to double-check the specific requirements that apply in each case.

For instance, in the US, the parent with "full custody" may be forbidden to move the children to another State, much less another country.

For China, full custody is enough, even though taking the Child to the USA effectively removes ability for the other parent to visit their child. Without full custody, permission from the other parent is needed. Some Country's laws would require permission in addition to full custody.

The appropriate Consulate will be able to give a ready answer. I reccomend you pose the question by email or fax.
