We want my fiancees child to arrive at least a year after we marry, so we can establish a home in a good school district.  If the k2 visa is only good for 6 months after the fiancee receives her k1, what is the process to get the child to America after her mother is married and applied for change of status?  Thank you.

You file an I 130 for each of the children

I assume they are minors much quicker if you file

Thank you, I read about that, but it specifically uses the term "child".  Her daughter will be my step-child....does that make a difference?  I read that the future wife can petition for her child after she receives her green card, but that window is longer than we want.

If the only reason to delay is for a school place that seems like a huge cost and hassle just for that? You just need a place in your school district of choice, you can always move later on if it's only a temporary place.

You just petitioned in October and have at least a year to establish decent living in best school district / work on it now

You have to list child on petition and ds 160 and K2 visa will be available for her to travel with mother

having her mom leave the Philippines without her would be more of a shock to a 8 year old (and then having to wait years to join her mom  W0W)

you wife will be new to US and can not be expected to know about our school districts and best place to live / that takes a lot of knowledge about the USA

you need to discuss the timeframes with your fiancee and let her know she could be up to or more than 3 years without her child if she has to AOS and do the I 130 / i would not want my child away from me that long and i am a man not a mom

I understand, but I want my future wife to have the opportunity to decide on the best school district for her daughter.  I'm in Houston, which will be enough of a culture shock for an 8 year old girl, and I want her to have the chance to go to school with other children she can relate to.

Surely her mother leaving would be more of a shock than moving with her mother and adjusting to a new school? Could you maybe do some research on the schools in the area whilst your fiancée waits for her visa? Just thinking it would be a lot less stress and upheaval for you all to do that.

Petitioned in March, was just approved.  Her daughter will remain with grandparents and aunts.

We're open to the daughter coming at the same time, but I'm asking what is the anticipated timeline if we wait until later?  3 months, 6 months....1 Year?

If you have to go down the I-130 route and petition her daughter, then it would be around 18 months to 2 years (depending on consulate).

If you're doing the K1 for mom, than you have follow to join options for the k2.
