Hello, my spouse and I live in Turkey. We filled out the I-130 form. I am the beneficiary, and my spouse is the petitioner. My wife underwent bariatric surgery on October 17. She had a sleeve gastrectomy. She had this surgery due to many reasons, including heart problems, excessive breathing problems related to her weight, and gastritis that developed in her stomach.

We I -130 form on June 4, 2025. I have had financial problems before. I am one of the victims of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. I lost approximately $20,000 in 2023. For a country like Turkey, this was a significant loss. Because of this loss, most of my savings disappeared. Even after getting married, we are still living in my family's house and renting a house everyone in the house is working. In short, I am a victim of a serious financial loss whose effects continue to this day.

My wife is experiencing severe pain after her surgery. Due to bariatric surgery, she needs a lot of psychological support and care. My entire family and I are working, so no one can look after her, and this situation is very upsetting. I don't have the means to send my wife to America regularly. My monthly income is nowhere near enough to cover it. Even if I could send her, she couldn't go because she is financially dependent on me and lives in Turkey. I don't earn enough with my income to sustain life in two different countries.

In this situation, my spouse and I are in a difficult position. Unfortunately, my spouse needs essential family support and medical care. For this reason, we requested expedited processing for the I-130 from USCIS and our Senator. We have attached the following documents:

- My spouse's hospital records (regarding the surgery)

- My spouse's post-surgery photos

- Emails and legally admissible financial documents regarding my losses on FTX

- Proof of my salary payments to demonstrate the low amount of my wages

- Health articles and supporting academic evidence indicating the necessary family and psychological support following this surgery

- Our letters of intent detailing our situation

I wanted to share all this for a similar reason. What are our chances of getting Expedite approval, or has anyone else experienced a similar situation? I would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me on this matter...

Too late now, but you should have filed directly with the Consulate in Ankara.  No, I doubt those are ground for an expedite.  You wife might have grounds for emergency evacuation from Turkey, but that is unlikely to impact your ability to accompany her to the USA.  It is possible though.  What is your plan for sponsorship of you, the immigrant?

We emailed the Ankara consulate directly to request a DCF, but they said we needed to withdraw our application from USCIS and haven't responded for a long time. They take about a month to reply to each email. If I send a total of 4 emails and spend 4 months, I will already have received approval from USCIS and it won't be necessary.

I also need to accompany him because I can't send him alone. I don't have the financial means to do so, and it's not just about him going there; someone needs to provide him with money there. Unfortunately, I can't fund my own life in Turkey and send money to America at the same time. Believe me, the income level here is very low. My entire monthly salary is only enough for a single plane ticket. We can't provide enough support to my spouse here because my family is working and I'm working. She has pain, she needs to get her medication, her stitches need to be checked, and there are many additional processes, but there's no one to do it.

This is putting pressure on me, so I prepared a good file for USCIS and sent it both directly to them and through the senator, but I have concerns. If it is not approved, I need to have a Plan B because this situation does not look good for sure.

Like I said, it's too late for DCF.  You needed to do that instead of filing with USCIS.  Your lack of financial means is a two-edged sword.  Again, what is your plan for sponsoring (financially) YOU, the intending immigrant. If you do not  have a satisfactory plan for that, there will be no immigrant visa anyway.  First things first.  The USA is not going send you both from Turkey to the USA so the US Taxpayer can support you both.  It just doesn't work that way.

We will use a joint sponsor financially. If I get the visa, I will be able to receive support. I already have plenty of family members, so basically I don't have a problem in this regard. So if I get the visa, I'll basically borrow money from my family members to settle down, and that's how it will work because that's how things are for me right now.

I still tried my luck. If USCIS approves the Expedite request, I will do my best over the next few months, but as you said, they are very strict about Expedite requests. If I were sure I could get it, I wouldn't have brought it up. I have too many doubts for sure.

Not only will USCIS have to expedite the process, but also you'll have to get an expedite from NVC and the consulate.

Yes, I am aware of that sir, but I believe that if USCIS approves, I will be able to get approval from NVC because, based on what I've read online, USCIS is stricter than NVC when it comes to expediting.

I've already tried my luck. I uploaded all the documents and necessary files. We even appealed to the Senator. I guess all I have to do now is wait and hope for a little luck.

Good luck.  Just remember that even an expedited case is not fast...It's just faster than some others.

Hopefully you two have a plan for health insurance coverage.  Your wife's ongoing medical care needs will not be cheap.

The reason we are expediting is not that we will go to America immediately upon receiving the expedited approval. If our expedited request is approved, we plan to go within 3-4 months after approval. What we are trying to do here is to ensure that my spouse does not suffer from a lack of necessary care and family support for about 1.5 years due to health reasons, which is why her mental state is not good. The reason for this expedited request is not a life-threatening situation. If it were that serious, I probably wouldn't be bringing it up here because it would likely be approved.

My spouse's health condition only requires monitoring; she needs regular care and family support. I work here and cannot look after her; she is in pain and still needs supplements. We will see what the process brings. Also, since my spouse has been living in Turkey, she does not have health insurance valid in the US, and it is impossible for me to have it because I have never even been to the US as a tourist in my entire life for sure

So what is the plan for her to have health insurance in the US?  Do you have any idea how expensive health care is here?

I have no idea about this. I know about healthcare costs in America, but I have no idea how to solve this because I've never lived in America before. If you have any suggestions, I'm open to hearing them, but I think the most logical option would be to discuss this detail with my spouse and see if she have a plan.

The Roux-Y procedure is a bit more challenging than our surgery. I hope your recovery is going well. I wish you the best. As the user in the first comment said, if we hadn't filed the I-130, we might have had a chance for DCF.

But it's not the end of the world. If USCIS denies our request, at least we can say we tried. In the worst-case scenario, I'll need to consider a Plan B. I'll update this topic once I receive a clear outcome regarding my request. I hope it can serve as a reference for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation in the future.
