Going to put this here.  It is amazing the way the extreme left will spin things, but whatever.  It is ironic that this gathering is happening in the UK.  I guess as long as they don't protest the UK government or their "progressive" polices they will be fine.  The other thing I find ironic in this piece is the name of the political party "Socialist Equality Party".  I know, in socialism, everyone is equal, but of course some are more equal than others.

I enjoy reading some of the extreme left sites, and of course the Nation never fails to entertain.  Leftist approved verbiage, "oligarch", I believe Bernie is on the approval board.  I do hope this guy wins, I expect there could be some capital flight.  Dallas Stock Exchange?

Public transport is a good example of socialist confusion about what makes things work. 

 

I ask people, “Who do you think built New York’s subways?” Most say: “the government.”

 

Who else could afford to dig tunnels and buy trains so everyone, rich and poor, can ride? Private businesses wouldn’t do it. They wouldn’t be able to charge enough to cover their costs. That’s why government must do it!

But actually, private companies built most of New York’s subways. The trains only became government-run after 1939, when the capitalists proposed raising the fare from 5 to 7 cents.

 

NYC’s mayor called that “a grab for the public’s pocket” and took control.

Zohran Mamdani’s Fantasy Island

 

Such fatalism might be disappointing, but it’s hardly surprising. If New York has gotten more right-wing in the era of street fights, lockdowns, equity purges, rotting public services, and migrant hotels, the city’s much more numerous liberals have polarized in the other direction. Take, for instance, the reported 63 percent of New York City Democrats who support Mamdani’s policy of arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who often visits New York for the opening of the U.N. General Assembly each September. Netanyahu’s capture is a titillating left-wing fantasy, speaking to a widely held expectation of a different politics creating an entirely new city and world. The fantasy runs aground fairly quickly. What crime would the city charge Netanyahu with? How would the NYPD even transport Netanyahu to the Hague? The United States is not a member of the Rome Statute and thus is outside the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, meaning Mamdani and most city Democrats seek to defy the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution and enforce laws and treaties that have no status on American soil.
