Global Entry App Experience

Debated posting this (kind of want to keep it secret  ).  Anyway, using the global entry app literally allowed myself and my work colleague to pass through CBP in minutes at Washington Dulles.  For anyone familiar with Dulles, while riding on the arrival shuttle from a British Airways flight, we downloaded the app, signed up, and set our arrival information.  When we reached the CBP arrival hall, it was packed, but we made our way to the GE App line which was empty, talked to an officer, and passed through.  Now in our case we did not check any luggage (it was a quick trip), so we did not have to wait at the carousel, but the App is worth it especially at PoE's that tend to be busy.

This is interesting! What advantage does having the GE app have over just having GE?
 

I have found the GE experience to be extremely quick anyway (when not entering on extension letter), so am curious as to how the app could make this even quicker. Is it the case that there are different lines for GE no app and GE with app?

Anecdotal related to Dulles only, but about 50 or so folks in the GE line after the kiosks vs. no one in the App line, and yes, the App users were directed to a separate line at least at Dulles.

Going through LAX Tom Bradley terminal last month they had a new facial recognition system that completely eliminated kiosks altogether.  There were just two scanning points and people walk up and almost instantly get a "green-GO" screen or a "see the officer" screen.  It was probably operating at about 10 seconds per person. The only thing that even slightly slowed it down was that some people seemed to be confused by what the "green-GO" screen meant and lingered unnecessarily until the "GO" part was explained to them.

It can be quicker if there is a queue to use the GE kiosk.. even if they are using facial recognition only 

 

It doesn’t show up on the cbp officers screen so you have to show the QR code that you get when you use the app.. and the officer scans that.
