About how long are passports taking now? Anyone with recent experience? Our son's came back pretty fast last year, less than a month I think.  But how much of a background check can you do on a 3 month old.

Ok, sorry.  I figured people finishing up their citizenship might have the most recent experience. Thanks for the move.

They received my application on 4/8. Exactly 15 days later I received notification that the application was approved and the booklet was being produced. They said is should receive it in the next week, or so.

Congrats! Did you order standard or large passport book? Did you get passport card?

No card for me. I requested the large book which I recommend for everyone. There was a time they would add pages for free but now the charge for that is so high, many opt to renew early.  Just might save hassle down the road.

Getting large book is a no brainer. Other countries charge extra for that. But since it's the same price as standard book, why not?

I also got passport card for convenience. With current times I like to keep proof of citizenship in my wallet all the time. Plus it doesn't show my home address unlike DL, so good for showing in grocery stores and places where they take copies of docs.

Did they email you notices or did you have to request status?

Not when you needed an expedited passport, so you wait over half a day to submit your application and then wait half a day for them to print it, only to realize they spelled your name wrong and they have to reprint it so you wait another 3 hours.  Yeah, I was supposed to get the large book but couldn't spend yet another 3 hours.

I'm not worried about it anymore because actually stamping passports is becoming increasingly antiquated.  More and more places are going to digital verification and e-gates.

It sucks to hear about your experience.

also sucks if stamping passports becomes a antiquated thing. I get joy looking at stamps in the passport

I do, too, but security is the name of the game.  Of the European Schengen countries, 29 of them no longer stamp and they join other countries like Australia and Singapore who stopped a while ago.  We didn't get stamped in the UK 2 summers ago, either.  All biometrics.
