Probably not... some folks are lucky enough to have the ceremonies that have post offices/county clerks/libraries, etc that accept applications OR have passport reps onsite.

Hi everyone! 

 

Happy update! I had my combo interview early yesterday and it was super quick and pleasant! The officer saw my partner but didn't need him to come in. We went through ids, addresses, and some small talk about my life and then proceeded with the civics questions, reading, and writing tests.

1. When was the Constitution written?

2. Who was the first President?

3. What is the name of the President of the United States now?

4. In what month do we vote for President?

5. Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?

6. There were 13 original states. Name three.

 

For the reading test, asked to read, "Who was Abraham Lincoln?"

For the writing test, asked to write "Abraham Lincoln was the president during the Civil War."

 

I had brought A TON OF updated evidence, but I had also frontloaded my application heavily -- so the officer said she didn't need anything else.

 

We made small talk as she approved everything and then she asked if I wanted a same-day oath. I was elated and happily accepted!

 

Went back at 2 pm and had a beautiful and moving naturalization ceremony. 

 

I shared more info about my FO in my profile.

 

Still feels surreal to have reached this milestone. Thank you all for being so helpful, it felt a little less lonely knowing we were all going through it together. Congrats to everyone else who's done already -- and best of luck to those still waiting!

I've just received a notification saying my interview was scheduled. I haven't checked the mail yet, but probably it will be in a month or so. Case filed online, FO Boston on November 4th, 2024.

Have you checked the Documents tab?  Mine appeared there and received the paper copy a few days later in the mail

Had my combo interview last Friday (4/24) and I got approved. I answer the first 6 questions correctly so the officer didn't ask the rest anymore.

6 questions:

1. What does a senator represent?

2. How many senators are there?

3. Where is Statue of Liberty located?

4. Who is your representative?

5. How many years do you elect a representative?

6. Who is the father of the country?

Reading: Where is the capital of the US?

Writing: The capital of the US is Washington DC

 

My husband wasn't asked to join me in the interview. The officer asked a lot of questions regarding my marriage and other details like the date when my green card was issued (even though he had the card at that time). They asked for a copy of our house closing documents and our house deed. He was pretty poker-faced the whole time. As long as all your documents are in order and you reviewed your files and general relationship questions, it should be fine.

Hi everyone, I am back on this forum after an year so please bear with me.

I have a pending I-751 so, my biometrics was reused. My N-400 progress went from a week to "Your case is taking longer than we previously estimated, but it is within normal processing times." It's been stuck there for the past few weeks.
 

Has anyone had the same issue? Mine is a K1 based visa.

Estimates mean nothing. MyProgress showed 3 weeks until decision on day of my oath.

It's not long, considering you have a pending I-751 and applying under 3 year rule. Those things add complexity. In addition, things like moving during I-751 or N-400 can also add delay to the case. Plus whatever the delay is at the local field office.

 

Anything within 12 months is normal processing time for most of field offices. We've recently seen somewhat improves times for some cases, but historically 6+ months isn't something extraordinary.

Had my N-400/I-751 combo interview last week and passed. Was approved for same-day oath and got my passport the next day. So glad to be officially done! Overall took 5.5 months for N-400 and 14.75 months for I-751.

 

Interview was scheduled for 9am. We entered at 8:45am and were called in at 9am. Finished at about 9:30am. Oath ceremony was at 11am and we were out by 12pm. The IO was very kind, courteous, professional, and it was just generally an enjoyable conversation for something so official. Everyone was really professional but the security guards could have been a little nicer with explaining the not-quite-TSA-style rules for the scanner.

The IO mentioned how organized our packet was and that everything we submitted was more than enough. She also said "I'm sure you have more documents to give me but I already have enough." Very few questions asked, mostly standard ones around being arrested, owing taxes, selective service registration, and the rest of the N-400 questions. I mentioned a parking ticket and an automated speeding ticket. She asked if I paid them, but didn't ask for any proof. I also clarified one date that was entered wrong for my travel dates and she fixed it according to CBP records she had access to, but said it being incorrect wasn't a problem really since I wasn't even close to being out of the country for 548 days.

 

Started with the N-400 citizenship test and then briefly asked my spouse and I questions about the I-751: "How did you meet? When did you get married? How have things been? No separation?" I also had to travel for several months in the US due to work and I brought that up and the IO asked, "So that was for work?" and I said, "Yes, I had to be on site" and she said she sees that in what we submitted and that was understandable. She asked us if we were cat or dog people based on some of the photos and liked that we indicated who was in each photo, when it was taken, and where. She commented a lot on the amount of evidence — including the photos — that we submitted, and our jobs, saying "You've convinced me you're a legitimate couple. Congratulations, I am approving both forms today." The interview was in total maybe 10-15 minutes. The remaining 10-15 minutes was us chatting while she processed our approval and scheduled the oath.

 

Philadelphia FO does not normally do same-day oath but I mentioned having a family medical emergency (I showed evidence of it) that I needed to travel for internationally. The IO got approval from her supervisor to approve me for same day oath. Otherwise it would have been 2-4 weeks for the oath.

 

Things I've done so far after citizenship:
1) Passport obtained next day through emergency appointment. Called at 8am and managed to get an appointment for 9am, submitted documents, and picked up passport at 1pm. Passport card will be delivered by mail in 2 weeks. Remember to sign your naturalization certificate!

2) Renewed expired Global Entry, conditionally approved within 36 hours. Applied Friday evening, email notice received Sunday morning. Was able to schedule a Zoom interview to show my documents on Monday afternoon.

3) Applied for e-visa to go to India, approved in 15 hours. Applied Friday evening and approved Saturday morning.

 

Pending tasks:

4) Update driver's license to reflect citizenship status

5) Register to vote

6) Update citizenship status with Social Security office

7) Update citizenship status with employer and banks

I'm on the same boat as you. K1 based, pending I-751, submitted N-400 last year in November, same field office. MyProgress first showed a countdown of weeks till decision, then disappeared and now to the same "taking longer than estimated".

It's so frustrating. I was hoping to get naturalized before my birthday but looks like it's going to take some time. I had some travel plans too. Oh well

I think it's still early. Most cases take about 7-8 months even more. It was showing the same for my husband too but I would be surprised if they actually scheduled it that early. Expect middle or end of summer for the process to be over.
