In Michigan, Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer has gone so far as to name a rent assistance program the Newcomer Rental Subsidy program.  It offers landlords $500 for each illegal alien.  The program "provides Refugees and other Newcomer population-eligible households with rental assistance up to $500 per month for up to 12 months, with eligibility based on immigration status and household income."  [...]

Denver Offering Free Bus Tickets to Illegal Immigrants to Move On - 'The Opportunities Are Over'

 

A local Denver television station recently obtained a video of a Denver city official visiting a shelter for illegal immigrants, where he is essentially telling them that there are no more resources available to them in the Mile-High City.

 

Video footage from local NBC affiliate KUSA shows Denver's Newcomer Communications Liaison and political director for Mayor Mike Johnston, Andres Carrera, telling a group of recently arrived illegal immigrants that the city is unable to assist them.  The footage shows Carrera encouraging the illegal immigrants, who arrived in Denver on March 26, to take a free bus ticket that the city will pay for and go to another sanctuary city.  [...]

Here are the requirements.  Also, this part was news to me.

 

In 2023, the Refugee Council USA reported that Michigan was ranked 4th with refugees, behind California, Texas, and New York.

 

Eligibility and Immigration Status

A beneficiary must have an eligible immigration status as defined by the Office of Refugee Resettlement which includes:

• Refugees
• Asylees
• Special Immigration Visa (SIV)
• Victims of Human Trafficking
• Cuban and Haitian entrants
• Afghan Nationals, and
• Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolees.

Other immigration statuses include individuals who arrived under the Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan (CHNV) program; individuals who arrived under the Family Reunification Parole Process for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Colombia, individuals with a pending asylum application, and other immigrant individuals on a case-by-case scenario.

Migrant Caravan Heads to El Paso

 

A migrant caravan is making its way from southern Mexico to the Texas border.  It is expected to arrive in the El Paso area in a few days.

 

There are about 2,000 people in the caravan.  One video reported that there were 3,000 marching in the caravan.  [...]

It seems the illegal immigrants are finding ways to extort things from Woke governments.  I highly doubt this will be a one off event.

By random chance, I discovered a 32-minute YouTube video by a videographer named Nick Shirley titled, "I Lived with Migrants in NYC for 24hrs."

 

It was two weeks old, but what an amazing revelation it was, a very fine example of what good long-form journalism used to be.

 

Shirley, who speaks Spanish (and captions his videos in English well), has a talent for connecting to the illegal migrants and those in contact with them, and they open up and explain what they're doing, where they're going, and why.  Sure, it's a lot of information we already knew, but seeing it through the eyes of particular people helps one to grasp the big picture better than individual data points.  [...]
