my wife is a permanent resident and it has her new name(after marriage) on the PR Card but her foreign passport still has her old pre-marriage name

when we leave to depart, i know the airlines will check the passport and match it with authorized travel document, which in our case is her PR card

the names will not match and im not sure if this will create an issue, she also has her state ID card and copy of the marriage certificate which shows the name change

Your situation is a common occurrence.  Just bring the marriage certificate to bridge the gap

Name discrepancies are corrected with original MC as proof of legal name change.

*Tickets are always booked in name on passport.

thanks for the quick replies, does the marriage certificate need to be a certified copy or can it just a scanned copy?

I am curious as well.  My wife is wanting to fly home to Vietnam for Tet in January.  Her VN passport and GC with marriage license will suffice, as I understand it? State ID/Social Security card as backup or no?

Do not take social security card. It should be stored in a safe place.

State ID doesn't help for international air travel either. Of course, if it's real ID compliant, you can show it on the way out of the US to TSA instead of passport.
