Green Cards

Does anyone know how long it is taking to receive green cards after arriving in US from PI?    Can they travel out of the country prior to receiving cards, as in a cruise or to visit me in Mexico?

The green card doesn't come from the PI, it is mailed from the USCIS production center in Kentucky.  The immigrant processing fee must be paid first before the card is even ordered.  Processing is roughly 30 days after arrival and if the fee has been paid.

 

They can travel using the temporary stamp in there passport while waiting for the actual card

I know the cards are from the US, I was just wondering how long they take. Everything will be paid up before traveling.

I may be wrong but the last time I read about the GC production some time ago as they were reducing GC production center to reduce cost & then we ended up getting extension letters for 48 months out for now. My Husband is currently on the 48 months extension letter via NOA. I'm guessing he'll naturalize first before he does get the next GC. I'm not sure about first time GC receivers and how long their wait is for now.

Maybe it might give you a few idea how long to wait. I do have a timeline and in signature. Do note he didn't do CR-1 so timeline would be different I think.

They are IW1 and IW2 because my son passed away, so I don't know what difference that may take.

Typically 4-8 weeks.

 

They can travel the same day they arrive.  Their immigration visa, upon endorsement, will act as a temporary I-551 (GC) for 1 year (from the date of endorsement).

 

They will need to have a family member or friend who can receive the GCs in the mail.

Father in law was 141 days, mother in law was around 40 days.

The 48 month extension has nothing to do with actual green card production but awaiting approval of the underlying application such as the I751.  My wife received her GC within 10 days of her I751 approval so card production is still quite quick

Location arriving from or arrival classification has no bearing on card production.

USCIS says it may take up to 90 days after US entry and fee payment.  But mine arrived after 120+ days.

Yes.  It is the petition that takes forever to be approved not the actual production of the greencard once it has been ordered to be made
