Hey guys,

My girlfriend is doing an AOS (We have not filed yet, will soon), and she wants her parents to ship her her personal items to the U.S

Does anyone know the process of doing this?

Do we need to have filed the AOS already?

Would this cause issues in the AOS process?

She will need to be a LPR to bring in her personal effects

as the Customs broker will need to input her SS # and may need possible copy of green card for CBP processing IF CBP asks for copy of entry documents

This is what i do, Im a customs broker in Houston.

Hmm but she isn't brining in her items though. Her parents are shipping them over.

Don't matter,     they need to be in her name, and cleared in her name.

As mentioned, she will need her green card to prove residency in the US for CBP.

CBP don't allow importation of personal effects unless they are US Citizens or LPR's or foreign military here on orders.

Example, someone here on visitors visa CANNOT bring in there personal effects - household goods.

~~Moved to Moving to the US and Your New Life - as the topic is about shipping belongings.~~

Mod hat off

She is going to have to wait until she is approved of her PR, maybe the EAD/AP would allow it.  CBP will need documents to prove her legal status before allowing her items to be shipped over. AOS is never guarantied so that is how CBP looks at it.
