Certified translator and costs

Hey there, I am from Ecuador and I am trying to get an affordable certified translator for some documents (birth certificate, crime records, vaccine records). If you can help me on how to find one would be really cool. Thanks

We actually used the paid services, I can't recall how much they were.  Also, it has been 4-5 years since we used them.

I know people that have translated them themselves.  I could have done my husband's paperwork, but we got the apostille and certification over in Argentina, and I wanted to make sure everything was certified including the translation.

If you have criminal records to translate, it is better to just use some type of service rather than a DIY just to be safe, especially if you are going through the Ecuador (Guayaquil) embassy, which is one of the toughest from what I have heard.

"Certified" translation are not required.  A translation with a simple attestation is all that is required and could potentially be done by you if you are fluent in both languages

"Certified" just means that translation needs to include following statement:

I agree with SneakyPete, and I believe the I-129f INSTRUCTIONS PDF file confirms/clarifies this, as well.

We had a hell of a time getting our translation company to put the certification wording that Pete showed on the translated documents. Translation company insisted that their company stamp would be enough. Eventually, we had to tell them to add the statement or stop getting paid. 

 

At the end of the day, you can even have a bilingual friend or family member do the translation, as long as they put the certification statement on the document.

My Thai divorce certificate’s english translation simply has a stamp saying it is a certified translation by the ymca, which was listed by the embassy as an acceptable agency to do certifed translations.

 

No other statement or attestation that it is a accurate translation, simply the certified translation stamp. 

 

So I agree with your company, that is all is needed and you are reading too much from the internet.  Surely, they have had countless experience and would know if it is not adequate.

 

I have used my stamped certified translation with uscis and different embassies without any issues.. a scanned photocopy nonetheless. never did they even need the originals. this goes for uscis, usa embassy in Indonesia, Philippines, ..
