I will be taking my N-400 civic test this month.

I'm reviewing the 2008 civic test reviewer and also reading some of the N-400 experience stories around here.

I noticed that there's a post for a January 26, 2022 N-400 experience that one of the question asked is this:  What was the US fighting during the cold war?

But I didn't find this question in the 2008 reviewer that I've been reading.

Did I get the wrong reviewer for the 2023 N-400 civic test?

Thank you for your clarifications!

interesting question as it doesn't say who but what   / the who would be Russia but what????

I am not sure how i would answer a what question

We were fighting a race to get to the moon

we were fighting to get the Berlin wall torn down

we were fighting to get missles out of Cuba

internet says this

the two superpowers continually antagonized each other through political maneuvering, military coalitions, espionage, propaganda, arms buildups, economic aid, and proxy wars between other nations.

The only cold  war question is:

83. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

And the answer to that question is the same as as the question

you quoted: communism.

Legally USCIS can ask only the questions in: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/questions-and-answers/100q.txt

We had one ugly N-400 civics test experience reported here. The only way to prevent a rogue ISO, you need to bring a lawyer to the interview.
