Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

If you ever petition a family member for a green card you will need the original.

I’ve seen some spiral based N-400 cases where the citizen spouse, despite not being born in the USA was required to provide a foreign birth certificate. Weird.

Until 5 years, I always had to have my Canadian birth certificate to renew my Canadian passport.

I would get it. Years ago my province moved away wallet size BCs and I went through great effort to get the full sized BC.  I will likely need to get my kids their Canadian certificates of citizenship

But my question is if I will ever need it with me in the US. Will I?

Asked and answered. I will rephrase my answer  in the form of questions:

1. Will  you petition  anyone for an immigration benefit?

2. Will you ever renew your passport from your country of origin?

Yes. Drivers licence SSN .. to bame just 2. Much easier to get multiple copies and have on hand

Why would you need a foreign birth certificate for a drivers license or SSN?
